K-pop boy band BTS will finally be serving out their mandatory military service starting with Jin, its oldest member, according to its agency Hybe on October 17.

“All other members will also serve mandatory military duty according to their plans,” their management group Hybe said in a statement.

Currently, most of the members of BTS are in their late 20s with Jin turning 30 in December this year.

“BTS member Jin will request to cancel the delay of his military enlistment in late October and then follow the enlistment process of the Military Manpower Administration. The other members will then follow with their enlistments according to their individual plans,” Hybe added.

The news ends years of speculation over whether the ultra-famous Korean stars are exempt from mandatory military duties that require all able-bodied men aged between 18 to 28 to serve about two years.

The group, who were also appointed as South Korea’s Special Presidential Envoy For Culture last year, were allowed to defer their military service till they turned 30.

Their deferment came when in 2020, South Korea’s parliament passed a bill allowing major Korean stars to delay their military service till they were 30.
