Apple TV+ is a streaming platform which offers a plethora of Apple Originals films. From compelling series to award-winning documentaries, the streaming service has something for everyone

At the highly anticipated Apple event held yesterday, Apple unveiled a list of new Apple Original Films that is set to premiere worldwide in theatres and on Apple TV+ in 2022.

Over the next year, Apple Original Films will debut new films featuring today’s most distinguished thespians and storytellers, including Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Dakota Johnson, Oprah Winfrey, Octavia Spencer and many other big names. 

Keeping to its goal of delivering premium entertainment, Apple has secured deals for feature films from award-winning studios and production companies, ensuring a continuous rollout of the best quality of entertainment for years to come.
  
To date, Apple Original films has earned 213 wins and 950 nominations. It has also recently received recognition from the Academy Awards, SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Critics Choice Documentary Awards, as well as NAACP Image Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards, to name a few.

Here is the list of original films to expect from Apple this year. 

1. Cha Cha Real Smooth

Cha Cha Real Smooth winner of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Dramatic Audience Award, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on June 17. In the highly acclaimed movie,  Cooper Raiff who happens to also be the writer and director of the film, stars as a recent college graduate stuck back at home with his family. The film follows the graduate as he strikes up a unique friendship with a young mom, played by Dakota Johnson, and her teenage daughter. 

2. Luck

Additional eagerly awaited Apple Original Films set to debut this summer include a documentary executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and directed by Reginald Hudlin about the career and life of the late Sidney Poitier; and Luck, a new animated feature from Skydance Animation about the unluckiest girl in the world, starring Jane Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Noblezada, Simon Pegg, Flula Borg, Lil Rel Howery, Colin O’Donoghue, John Ratzenberger and Adelynn Spoon, premiering August 5.

3. Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong

In fall this year, the Apple Original Films slate will expand with the premiere of the documentary film Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong. Produced under Apple’s first-look agreement with Imagine Documentaries, the feature documentary will give viewers a glimpse into the life of the legendary musician, who today is regarded as one of the founding fathers of jazz. 

4. Raymond & Ray

Directed and written by Rodrigo García, the film stars Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke and follows the story of two half-brothers who reunite at the funeral of their terrible father. 

 

 

5. The Greatest Beer Run Ever

The Greatest Beer Run Ever is Peter Farrelly’s new dramedy based on the true story of John “Chickie” Donohue. The dramedy which features Zac Efron and Russell Crowe, follows the life of Donohue who in 1968 left New York to track down and reconnect with his childhood buddies, who are now in the army fighting in the Vietnam war.

6. The Sound of 007

Later this fall, the documentary feature The Sound of 007, a film that commemorates the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film series will make its global debut on the streaming site.

7. Spirited

The highly anticipated holiday release Spirited, a modern musical rendition of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale A Christmas Carol will also be dropping this fall on Apple TV+. Audiences will be treated to an exceptional performance by renown actors such as Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell as well as Octavia Spencer. 

8. Emancipation

Also coming soon, the Apple Original Films feature film slate will see the premiere of Will Smith and Antoine Fuqua’s highly anticipated new film Emancipation, which chronicles the triumphant story of a man who escapes from slavery, will debut on Apple TV+. 

9. Killers of the Flower Moon.

Before the end of 2022, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's Killers of the Flower Moon will be debuting on the streaming platform. Starring big names such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow and more, the highly anticipated film follows the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

10. Argylle

Up next on the list is Matthew Vaughn’s next spy thriller Argylle, which features an A-list cast that includes the likes of Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson. 

11. Sharper

Also soon to be added to Apple’s growing lineup is the film Sharper. Sharper is suspense-thriller set in New York City, from writers Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka starring Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith, Briana Middleton and John Lithgow.

12. Tetris

Tetris which features Taron Egerton tells the origin story of one of the most revolutionary computer games, following its extraordinary journey. 

13. Napoleon

Another highly anticipated show set to debut on Apple TV+ before the end of the year is Ridley Scott’s Napoleon which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French military leader, alongside Vanessa Kirby as Josephine. 

14. Number One on the Call Sheet

Number One on the Call Sheet is a film that celebrates the achievements of the Black leading women and men in Hollywood. 

15. Ghosted

 Dropping this year, Ghosted is high school concept romantic action adventure film featuring renowned thespians Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. 

16. Spellbound

Produced by Skydance Animation, Spellbound is a film which follows a young girl who sets out to break the curse that has divided her kingdom into two.

17.  The Beanie Bubble

The Beanie Bubble is a film inspired by the story behind one of the biggest speculative crazes that blazed through American culture in the 1990s.

18. Bad Blood

A highly anticipated project, Adam McKay’s Bad Blood stars Jennifer Lawrence who acts as Theranos’ CEO Elizabeth Holmes in the film. The film entails the rise and fall of the controversial company Theranos. Lawrence also plays a part in the production of the highly sought after project. 

19. Dolly

Last but not least on the lists, Dolly is a sci-fi courtroom drama about a robot that kills its owner. Written by Academy Award-nominee Vanessa Taylor and Drew Pearce, the film stars Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh.
