The renowned Filipino photographer and artist joins the lineup of numerous Asian artists gathering at one of the most anticipated art fairs in the West

Art runs through Mark Nicdao's veins, as evident in his oeuvre either in photography or visual arts, a path in his artistic career that he braved to tread just recently. For a few times, he has braved the world of visual arts, mounting solo exhibitions and joining group shows.

His first solo show as a visual artist, titled "Portal 5.12: The Imaginings of a Disinhibiting Manic Neurotransmitter (beta version)" in March 2022 at León Gallery, presented by DF Art Agency, touched on a subject he knows best: himself. He also joined group shows starting in 2019 with his sculpture titled Portal 1.1: KRMNNH on Semi-classical Layered Gravity, and, most recently, in August 2022 at Gravity Art Space.

"Mark Nicdao has long been celebrated as one of the best photographers in Southeast Asia," Rivoli Fine Art wrote in a statement. "Tempted for many years to project his talent on a canvas, he started to venture into painting progressively, first by adding acrylic to his photographs, before facing the adventure of painting without associating it with a picture. The process led him to his first solo exhibition, in Manila early this year, which met an immediate success, all paintings being sold out at the opening."

Through Rivoli Fine Art, Nicdao joins the roster of esteemed contemporary artists throughout the continent that will be exhibiting at this year's Asia Now Paris. His works in the fair mark his evolution as a visual artist in terms of mastery of his unique technique.

"I never thought I would open up to colours and shadows to such a degree. My collectors will be surprised”, he pointed out.

His Asia Now Paris works display "new purposes, violent emotions exploding in large spirals to the infinite, which the artist then interprets by covering them through a microscopic approach."

"Anatomy of the hidden self, solid structures swallowed by nuclear disintegration, remaining volutes after the inner Big Bang, that is what it is all about and needs to be done again and again," Rivoli Fine Art wrote.

Nicdao describes his process to be intuitive, coming from the inside like a surge of emotions on high alert. But once he finishes, it is soothing to the senses like a euphoria. "It is about removing the fear," Rivoli Fine Art vaguely described. But as for someone who has seen Nicdao's works, they are indeed unexplainable until experienced.

Catch Mark Nicdao's works at the Rivoli Fine Art's booth at Asia Now Paris 2022 in Monnaie de Paris, from October 20 to October 23.
