Pangasinan 4th District Representative Toff de Venecia wears his director's hat once again as he takes the lead in the re-staging of Rodger and Hammerstein's "Carousel" by the Repertory Philippines
Dubbed by TIME magazine as "the best musical of the 20th century" in 1999, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Carousel is an award-winning musical adapted from a 1909 play by Ferenc Molnár. This piece has been one of Repertory Philippines' (REP) beloved productions back in 1996 during the company's 53rd season. Ambitious as the project may seem, the revered musical theatre director of today's performing arts scene Congressman Toff De Venecia is ecstatic to share with Filipino audiences the company's new take on this classic musical.

Opening on November 26, Carousel will be staged at the newly built black-box theatre of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. At the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, first-time REP director De Venecia will present a "bold, contemporary reimagination" of Carousel.
"Carousel follows the story of Billy Bigelow, a swaggering and carefree carnival barker, who falls in love with and marries Julie Jordan, a sweet yet naive millworker. After learning Julie is pregnant, a desperate Billy is forced to participate in a robbery that ends in a tragedy. He is then given a second chance to make things right," the press statement says.
