1. Gallant by V.E. Schwab

6. When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo

This debut novel by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo is a love story set in Trinidad and Tobago. The women of St. Bernard have lived in Morne Marie for generations. One woman in each generation is responsible for guiding the city’s souls into the afterlife. Next in line is Yejide but she’s never up for it. When her mother, Patronella dies suddenly, Yejide is unprepared to fulfil her duty.
