Online programmes, gallery exhibitions, and concerts await Filipinos during the 2023 Museum and Galleries Month in October

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) with the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage (SCH) and the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) lead the celebration of this year’s Museums and Galleries Month with the theme “Exhibits and Reflections: Crafting Opportunities for the New World”.

The celebration emphasises the role of art galleries and museums in enriching the Filipino culture through the preservation of our heritage, the promotion of artistic expression, and the fostering of a deeper understanding of our history and identity.

The Museums and Galleries Month is observed every October by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No 798, s 1991. It underscores the importance of amplifying national consciousness and pride in the Filipino culture and heritage.

“Philippine art has always reflected the conditions and struggles of each society, this year’s theme of celebration embraces art as a social responsibility; it leaps from the general view that art is solely made for entertainment,” says NCCA executive director Oscar G Casaysay. “Art is a catalyst for change; through it, we pause and reflect, through it we hope and dream, and through it we strive for nation building.”
