With spectacular views of Hong Kong’s skyline as a backdrop at the bar, which boasts a rooftop terrace, the night was a celebration of art and culture without borders. Mingling with some 500 local and international guests, Ho was thrilled to see the creative energy come back to Hong Kong. “MGM endeavours to bring unique art and cultural experiences [to the region], fusing tradition with innovation and connecting the east with the west,” she said. “As [we] reopened borders this year, we felt that there was no better moment than now to celebrate the restart of art and cultural activities and reconnect with both our local and international audiences [through a] cultural celebration—something unconventional and fun that everyone has longed for post pandemic.”

And unconventional it was. Cardinal Point—which has a contemporary decor—was decked out with bamboo decor for the night, a move inspired by the look and feel of wet markets. Dining delights were served throughout the night, including dim sum and egg tarts by The Merchants, a contemporary Shanghainese restaurant that is also located at Forty-Five. The kicker was when waiters passed around lit-up lai see packets with the words “long time no see” written in Cantonese.

Curated by Hong Kong event maestros Surprise Surprise, special performances saw lion dances intertwined with tango, and a host of musicians and DJs including Rainbow, El Toro, Kulu, Yeo, Vivian, Johnny Hiller and Alex Nude, who kept the fun going until the wee hours.
