Cover ‘Spirit of Vessels, Philosophy of Senses by NiceDay at Ion Art gallery, runs from July 8 to 28, marking the Singapore-born contemporary lifestyle brand’s global debut exhibition

From ancient kilns to a world-premiere ceramics collection, NiceDay’s debut global exhibition at Ion Art gallery makes a persuasive case for finding beauty in the objects of everyday life

For a brand that believes elegance is embedded in the everyday, choosing Singapore as the site of its first exhibition anywhere in the world is a statement of intent. NiceDay, the contemporary lifestyle brand rooted in a fusion of Eastern and Western traditions, opens Spirit of Vessels, Philosophy of Senses at Ion Art gallery from July 8 to 28—and the city, with its particular fluency in both cultural registers, turns out to be exactly the right place for it.

Unfolding across four narrative chapters at Ion Orchard’s Level 4 gallery, the exhibition works through a single, sustained proposition: that the objects we hold, wear and smell are not merely functional, but vessels of meaning, memory and daily grace.

The matter of materials

The first chapter, Texture, sets the register early. Raw materials—handmade papers and textiles, ceramic glazes and kiln tools, stone and wood—are presented not as backstory but as subject in their own right. The unadorned essence of everyday objects, NiceDay argues, is where any serious conversation about beauty properly begins.

East meets West, in clay

The exhibition’s most substantial curatorial gesture comes in Chapter II, Heritage Dialogues, which brings together works by Lucie Rie and Hans Coper—widely regarded as the defining studio potters of post-war Britain, with works held in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum. Placed in dialogue with Eastern ceramic traditions, the works give NiceDay's design philosophy a grounding in genuine art historical weight.

Chapter III delivers the exhibition's centrepiece: the world premiere of NiceDay’s debut ceramics collection. Developed through hundreds of refinements, each piece draws on painting, music, architecture, literature and dance to arrive at what the brand calls a Future Aesthetic—forms that are fashion-forward without being indifferent to the craft traditions that precede them. Singapore-exclusive colourways, including a Conical Bowl glazed in a reference to Klimt’s The Kiss, are available only at ion Art gallery.

Scent as autobiography

The final chapter turns to fragrance. NiceDay's debut scent collection, inspired by nature, art history and local Singaporean memories, treats olfaction as a form of storytelling—quiet, primal and surprisingly precise. It is the exhibition's most personal register, and a fitting close to a show that has, throughout, been making the case for sensory attention as its own reward.

Spirit of Vessels, Philosophy of Senses is on at Ion Art gallery, Level 4, ion Orchard, from 8 to 28 July 2026, daily from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free.
