On October 5, the Rosewood Hong Kong played host to the 2024 Hong Kong Ballet Ball, celebrating the company’s 45th anniversary with a captivating Sapphire Soirée.

The Hong Kong Ballet Ball was marked by sapphire-themed décor and an elegant dress code and brought together over 250 prominent figures from Hong Kong’s social scene for an evening of fine dining and enchanting performances.

Since its inception in 1985, the Ballet Ball has been a cornerstone of the charity ball season, raising funds that have supported the growth and artistic development of the Hong Kong Ballet (HKB). The funds raised this year will aid talented young dancers from low-income families through training opportunities at the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet, alongside initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of HKB’s dancers.

The event was expertly emceed by Peter Cheung, who added  a touch of charm to the proceedings.

Guests were treated to a stunning array of performances throughout the evening, including Sapphire Ballerina and Officer, choreographed by artistic director Septime Webre, and hip-hop-inspired performance Tutu Academy, created in honour of the 45th Anniversary celebration. The dynamic stage setup allowed for a 360-degree view of the dancers, which was complemented by LED screens and interactive installations that enhanced the atmosphere.

Ho reflected on HKB’s journey, acknowledging the collective efforts that have contributed to its success over the years. “Forty-five years ago, a small group of passionate individuals came together with a vision to share the joy of ballet in Hong Kong and to make a difference in our community. This evening [is about] fondly looking back on the remarkable milestones we have accomplished collectively,” she said.

The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including lead sponsor Chopard and auction partner Christie’s, reinforcing the strong ties between the arts and the community.

With a global company of 50 dancers and a commitment to excellence, HKB continues to represent Hong Kong on the international stage, showcasing a diverse repertoire that includes both classic and contemporary works. As it moves forward, the ballet remains dedicated to making the art form accessible to all, ensuring that the spirit of ballet thrives in the community.
