Special Exhibits

The works of Bjorn Calleja and Emmanuel Garibay will be included in this year's Art in The Park Special Exhibit. Calleja is a Filipino contemporary painter and interdisciplinary artist who earned his BFA from Far Eastern University (FEU). His early career involved corporate jobs and stints as a graphic designer. He is also a co-founder of Other Things, a design studio based in Manila.

Dirty Hands for Art in the Park 2023, a series of charcoal and graphite portraits and ceramic sculptures, showcase the artist's exploration of the relationship between figuration and abstraction. With gestural strokes and exaggerated forms, Calleja imbues the works with a sense of energy and movement, inviting viewers to engage with the physicality of the creative process. Also on view will be prototypes of lamps, and functional art pieces that the artist is currently developing.

Emmanuel Garibay, on the other hand, is an artist from Kidapawan, North Cotabato. He is known as much for his expressionist figurative style as for his keen social and political consciousness expressed in his works. For Art in the Park 2023, Garibay will debut a series of small works, head studies painted on dibord aluminium.
