Filipino photographer Filbert Kung shares the inspiration behind his ‘Chronology of a Mind’ photography exhibition in Milan
Italian culture, art, and people have always inspired renowned Filipino photographer Filbert Kung. This year, he brought his works to the BI.CI. Srl showroom on the prestigious Via de la Spiga in Milan, Italy. Titled Chronology of a Mind, the exhibition opened on June 20 and featured 25 selected photographs, including avant-garde works, portraits, and landscapes.
“The Chronology of a Mind is my second exhibition in Milan. Along with my team, we decided to do another exhibition,” he tells Tatler. “The BI. CI. Progetti e Arredamento hosted the exhibition. We also received huge support from Italian companies like Brugola1926 and Mailboxes Italy.”

Kung’s exhibition is a culmination of his 15-year career. This well-travelled artist has been inspired by Africa and the cities he visits the most, including New York, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Los Angeles and Manila.
Italian Republic. “We showed 25 images to convey my emotional journey as a photographer and artist—some of the photos we presented were taken 15 years ago, and some were taken just recently from my latest trip to Africa,” he says.
The photographer has rubbed elbows with the who’s who in Hollywood and Philippine cinema. He captured images of Lady Gaga, Brian May of Queen, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Evans, Catriona Gray, Pia Wurtzbach, and more 54 during his career.

Despite his success, Kung remembers to look back at where he came from. “I always find meaning in every photograph I have ever taken; what I showed in this exhibit is an evolution of my work that started in the Philippines.
I continue to evolve as an artist.” For budding artists and photographers, Kung says that the best way to grasp what they do quickly is through research. “That is the first thing you can do. Train your eyes and see the world uniquely; pay attention to light, composition, and details.
Do not be afraid of failure and continue evolving. Believe in yourself.” The artist is deeply grateful to friends who helped him along the way. “It has been a dream of mine to do exhibitions from around the world. I started in Milan. We plan for more exhibitions coming, mostly around Europe,” he concludes.
