Take a look at the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ honourees of the annual and lifetime achievement awards this 2023
To celebrate the artistry and excellence of local artists, filmmakers and institutions in Philippine cinema, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) held its first-ever annual awards event, ‘Parangal ng Sining’, on April 23 at Seda Hotel, Quezon City.
Literally translated as Honour of the Arts, this event aims to recognise Filipino creatives and stakeholders for championing the Philippine film industry and gaining widespread acclaim for their respective works.

Above Dolly de Leon
Present at the event is Dolly de Leon, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee, who received the Gawad Lente: Annual Achievement Award this year. The actress received critical acclaim for her breakthrough performance in the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme D’Or winner Triangle of Sadness.

Above Soliman Cruz
Another recipient is veteran actor Soliman Cruz whose extensive filmography in the entertainment industry made him one of the most prolific and respected actors. His lead role in the Romanian film, To The North, premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, where it received standing ovations from the audience and won the Premio Bisato D’Oro 2022.

Above Martika Escobar
Filmmaker and Gen.T 2022 Honouree Martika Escobar is the first Filipino director to receive the Special Jury Prize for Innovative Spirit at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival for her debut feature-length film Leonor Will Never Die. Thus, the FDCP honoured her with the Annual Achievement Award for her experimental and world-class storytelling.
The national agency also honoured those who have dedicated their lives to the growth and development of Philippine cinema, with Vilma Santos, Nick Deocampo, Lily Yu Monteverde, and Cinemalaya receiving awards.

Above Nick Deocampo, represented by Teddy Tan, Jnr
Vilma Santos-Recto, widely known as the “Star For All Seasons”, has significantly contributed to the local entertainment industry with her numerous and often memorable roles in Filipino films and television shows.
Lily Yu Monteverde was awarded for fostering the growth of Philippine mainstream cinema and producing well-loved Filipino blockbuster films.
Meanwhile, Film historian Nick Deocampo, an advocate for preserving and restoring Filipino films, was honoured for his substantial research on Philippine cinema, emphasising the importance of remembering our cinematic history. He was represented by his nephew Teddy Tan Jnr at the awarding ceremony.
