Curious about GMG Productions’ latest show? Here’s what you can expect from ‘Come From Away’
During the events of 9/11, the United States airspace was shut down, forcing dozens of commercial airlines to land immediately. Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of over 7,000 airline passengers who unexpectedly found themselves in the remote town of Gander, Newfoundland, Canada and its residents who came together to house and aid those in need. Premiered on Broadway in 2017, the musical was well-loved for its themes of generosity, community, and kindness.
This June, Come From Away makes its Philippine debut under GMG Productions, promising a fresh take on the multi-award-winning musical. “With Come From Away, GMG Productions is proud to embark on this exciting new chapter, working with a Filipino-led cast and crew for the first time,” says GMG Productions CEO Carlos Candal.
More from Tatler: Clad in glitz, glam and pink, ‘Delia D’ celebrates the core Filipino values that we’re all familiar with
During the musical’s open rehearsals, Tatler got to see what GMG Productions has been cooking up, and audiences are in for a treat once it hits the theatre. The whole cast lit up the room with sneak peek performances of Welcome to the Rock and 28 Hours/Wherever We Are, among others. Each member harboured thick accents depending on the character they were portraying—from Canadian to French and British—and they were well spoken.
