Megaworld’s Mactan Newtown Beach offers the luxury of seaside life with city comforts within reach
There’s plenty to love about Cebu, from its scrumptious lechon and colourful festivities to its countless historic sites and pristine beaches. It also boasts pristine coastlines and beaches, one of which is making waves. The Mactan Newtown Beach offers a wide variety of activities, spectacular views and dining options, perfect for immersing its growing number of visitors in the distinct charm that Cebu offers. Tatler Philippines travelled here for a brief weekend escape, and we’re eager to share our experience.

The beach itself instilled a sense of peace and calm, and we were lucky to visit so early in the morning before anyone else to catch the sunrise. Surrounded by the shade of trees and canopies, it felt like your own private slice of paradise. As the sun slowly rose from the horizon, the sea was bathed in a beautiful orange hue, revealing pristine waters and the slow shuffling of boats.
There’s a swimming pool that overlooks the nearby sea, with a covered wading area where you can relax. There are dozens of cabanas and lounge areas, as well as a viewing deck. You needn’t stray far for a bite to eat or a glass to drink, either: there’s a wide range of meals, drinks, and cocktails at the onsite Pool Bar, as well as a host of dining options at the Beach and Resto Bar.
These spaces are complemented by meticulously landscaped gardens, shops, and a state-of-the-art fitness station. Off to the side is a small, picturesque pier, which is the perfect place to snap a quick photo. If you’re the adventurous type, a variety of water sports activities are available, such as banana boat rides, jet skiing, and parasailing, to make the most out of your visit to the sea. The adjacent boardwalk also serves as a departure point for island-hopping trips to the nearby islands, enabling yet another avenue for recreation and exploration.

The Mactan Newtown Beach is just a short, 10-minute walk away from our lodgings at the Belmont Hotel and the adjacent Savoy Hotel, making it a convenient distance away. But if you don’t feel like walking, shuttle services, including private vans and a traditional Filipino Sarao jeepney, are available to transport guests to and from the 20,000 square metre beach.
When we arrived, there was an intimate wedding reception at the 150-person capacity Ceremony Garden. If you’ve ever thought of having your special day at the beach, this is definitely one place to keep in mind. Of course, this venue isn’t limited to just walking down the aisle—birthday parties, gatherings, and conferences can all benefit from the magnificent view of the Hilutungan Strait. There are also two other main options to choose from: the 150-person capacity Grand Beach Tent and the 300-person Glass Pavilion, capable of accommodating whatever occasion you have in mind. Stone paths lead and wind you around canopies of trees and covered cabanas. A place to sit down or relax is always within reach.
