Designs that accommodate lifestyles in the post-pandemic world are not just in traditional luxury homes, they're also on water
In an era where social connections and experiences have gained newfound importance, evolving demands, particularly from a younger generation of buyers seeking spaces to entertain, as well as a desire to reconnect with the outdoors, are seen in design trends the world over.
The shifting tides are seen not just in traditional luxury homes, but also on water.
“I see the desire to live on boats, not just to show off, but to enjoy family life and [time with] friends,” Giovanna Vitelli, the chairwoman of Azimut Benetti Group, which operates the luxury yachting company Benetti, tells Tatler.
“I also think our trends go very much along with a glamorous, modern, contemporary lifestyle,” she adds. “The [Asia] market is open and hungry for this type of novelty.”
The Veranda deck, which Benetti launched at the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of last year, for example, is what the company calls a reinterpretation of the traditional main deck lounge—“a space that has seen almost no change in the past fifty years and has thus fallen behind, increasingly avoided due to its excessive formality”.

Indoor-outdoor living

Vitelli says the Veranda deck was created in response to a new generation of owners who seek a connection with the outdoors. It opens up on three sides, creating a flow and an indoor-outdoor look and feel between the lounge and the stern.
The new design is seen on the Motopanfilo 45m, a yacht inspired by the iconic yachts of the 1960s. The exteriors are the work of the British yacht design company Redman Whiteley Dixon (RWD), while the interiors and exterior deck design are by the Italian- and Australian-based architectural practice Lazzarini Pickering Architetti.
The Veranda deck follows the the Oasis deck, which the firm unveiled earlier in 2023. The Oasis deck features a hydraulic terrace that opens on the port side and starboard side (respectively the left and the right of the vessel, while facing the bow), which extends the length of the deck.
The Oasis deck was showcased via the privately owned Alunya at the Monaco Yacht Show. It is a Benetti B Now 50m, an award-winning model.

Addressing the needs of the yacht’s occupants is always an important consideration—and the different experiences guests on board seek, particularly during long stays on board, became the inspiration for the B Yond 55m, the work of the yacht designer Igor Lobanov.
The yacht features five decks, providing plenty of space. It also allows separation and privacy between guests and staff—something that is particularly sought-after in the Asian, Middle Eastern and South American markets, says Vitelli.
The B Yond line was originally the brainchild of Paolo Vitelli, the founder and chairman of the Azimut Benetti Group—he is the father of the chairwoman—and the yacht designer Stefano Righini.
Epic entertainment spaces

The introduction of large areas, created with entertaining and socialising in mind, as well as reconfigurable meeting spaces on the decks are seen on the Project Life 85m.
Features that allow natural light, and views of the moving landscape outside, into the spaces include curved lines in the main reception, main saloon and upper lounge, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows. Espen Øino designed the exteriors, while its interiors are the work of Francois Zuretti.
Natural materials and soft lines

A contemporary style—think soft, fluid lines, voluminous ceiling heights and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces—dominate the Project Oro 85m, designed by the yacht designer Valentina Zannier. The interiors also feature natural materials and warm neutrals—beige and light grey, for example.
