Sporting an earthy palette inspired by nature, Sand House by Urban Delineation is the ideal embodiment of mindful living
From sandy shores and blue skies to the lapping waves, the beach life presents an idyllic setting for a leisurely existence. It was this calming effect of coastal living that motivated Urban Delineation for one of its latest residential projects, dubbed Sand House.
Perched on a high floor in the Pullman Residences freehold condominium, the 1,163 sq ft apartment already has a covetable address. For a young family, timeless and durability are key considerations, alongside the need for plentiful storage.
The designers drew from the family’s sporty way of life: the couple and their two children enjoy running, swimming and off-road biking, and declare themselves to be “inseparable from nature”.

“Their active lifestyle and love of the outdoors became the inspiration for their home to evoke the warmth of sand, the tranquillity of beaches, and the ever-shifting beauty of the coastal skies,” says Bryan Chng, design principal and founder of Urban Delineation.
Working together with senior interior designer Karina Yulianti, Chng translated the concept of “sand” into a visual language that represents softness and warmth. Muted tones, soft textures and shifting shades create a soothing effect that is keenly felt throughout the three-bedroom home.

Upon entering the unit from the private lift lobby, guests are greeted by a cosy foyer, followed by an open-plan living room awash in sandy hues. With its rotund form, tactile fabric cover and earthy hue, the Bang & Olufsen Beosound speaker matches the soft furnishings perfectly while providing a musical accompaniment.
A mix of stone and nature-inspired finishes was selected for this space, contributing to the cocooning effect of the living room. These include granite countertops from Cosentino and walnut-laminate claddings from EDL, applied to the cabinetry. A full-height mirrored wall also serves to expand the sense of space in this compact area.

After the sun sets, layered lighting elements impart a soft glow to the space. Highlighting the Hail pendant lights from Lee Broom, the designers visualise these accent pieces to appear like a “star visible from almost every vantage point”, from the hallway to the bedrooms. These are accompanied by LED lighting strips concealed in the ceiling, which help to establish a relaxing mood. Two layers of cream and off-white curtains shield the home from the brunt of the midday sun, opening up to reveal a balcony featuring an al fresco dining area with a view.
Above the island, ceiling-hung shelves and cabinets help to maximise the use of space in the kitchen, while showcasing a selection of spirits from the couple’s collection. A pair of bar stools acts as both a breakfast nook in the day and a spot for drinks when the sun goes down.
