Layers, textures, asymmetrical details and thoughtful design moments turn this East Coast apartment designed by Bud Studio into a relaxing oasis
When the owners of this four-bedroom apartment unit in Singapore’s East Coast area approached Bud Studio, the brief was simple in theory: to transform the 2,055 sq ft abode into a sanctuary. In practice, however, it represented a delicate balancing act.
“The biggest challenge in this project was ensuring consistency in the overall design language while accommodating very different functions and moods across the home,” says Bin Yeo, co-founder of Bud Studio.
“Each space had its own specific criteria, from a spa-like bathroom and resort-inspired bedroom to a functional yet sleek kitchen, which would naturally pull the design in different directions, risking a disjointed feel,” he adds.
The team, led by Yeo and designer Benson Lim, took on the challenge with a vision of warmth, comfort, and quiet sophistication. The existing marble flooring was retained, serving as a neutral canvas for a layered design that blends modern minimalism with various Japandi influences.

Welcome to Calm

Above This peaceful corner encapsulates the East Coast apartment’s overall vibe perfectly
From the private lift lobby to the entrance, the apartment immediately communicates a sense of serenity. A bay window was converted into a seating nook for putting on shoes, paired with a miniature zen garden and a textured rock feature wall.
The shoe cabinet now neatly accommodates two to three rows of shoes: practical and perfectly integrated. The designers wanted the entrance to feel like a gentle sigh, a transition from city chaos to domestic calm.

Living, Breathing Spaces

Above The East Coast apartment’s tranquil living room
The East Coast apartment’s living and dining areas balance warmth with layered textures: stone, wood, greenery and glass. A moss-like rug softens the living room, while a pebble-shaped coffee table adds organic playfulness. A large wooden table anchors the dining space, complemented by corridor lighting along the walls.

The textured rock wall from the entrance continues here, tying the design together. Floor-to-ceiling doors open out to a large balcony, flooding the room with natural light. The intention was for the living area to feel like an extension of nature: calm, inviting, and infinitely tactile.

The kitchen combines a modern-contemporary style with thoughtful functionality. An island as well as a built-in refrigerator and ovens keep the space clean and minimal, while sliding barn doors double as a feature wall that can separate the kitchen from the living area during heavy cooking.
Concealed storage ensures that appliances, kitchen implements and pantry items stay tucked away, letting the apartment maintain its serene aesthetic.

A Resort-like Retreat

The East Coast apartment’s master bedroom exudes a resort-inspired vibe with a grand entrance frame, low-profile platform bed and lounge by the bay window. A slanted ceiling contrasts with the soft, curved, cosy design elements, enhancing the room’s height while creating visual drama. Layers, textures and asymmetrical details combine to make this space restful yet visually rich.

Over in the bright and spa-like master bathroom, the East Coast apartment’s layout was reconfigured to optimise flow. Among its unique features are his-and-hers basins with distinctive marble-and-metal taps, plus heated toilet seats. A common toilet was removed to make room for an onsen tub, surrounded by dark grey tiles and soft, ambient lighting.
Other communal spaces include a study, an aquarium-focused room, and a walk-in wardrobe-cum-tea area, the latter built on a raised wooden platform at the bay window, complete with cushioned seats for quiet reflection and calming sips of green tea.
Harmony In Every Corner

Following the renovation’s completion in January 2025, this East Coast apartment embodies Bud Studio’s ethos: each room tells its own story, yet every corner flows together as a cohesive, living organism.
From zen gardens and pebble-shaped tables to spa-inspired baths, this restful sanctuary is a masterclass in layered design. It’s a home that invites its inhabitants to pause, breathe, and belong.
