Ushering in a new era of lighting design, this collaborative space between The Tile Gallery and Lodes reflects modern pursuits of craftsmanship and longevity

“What does light mean to you?” That was the question guests mulled over as they entered the collaborative space of Italian lighting brand Lodes and The Tile Gallery. Such an open-ended query elicited a wide range of responses, but one thread ran through them all: far from merely a technical addition, light is an immersive experience that can enhance one’s mood and set the stage for a meaningful gathering.

That was the case in The Language of Light, a gathering of architects, interior designers and other members of Manila’s design community in the Sevenscape Events Place at Gallery 7 Design Center in San Juan, Manila. Each lighting fixture was given space to breathe, from serene outdoor accents to whimsical kitchen centrepieces. For Cesare Vezzani, Lodes’ regional sales director, it was ultimately up to the designer to curate a lighting experience that reflected each client’s distinctive personalities and ways of life.

Since Lodes was founded in Venice in 1950, its goal has been to create lights that balance “form, function and technical innovation.” Amid the fast pace of modern living, they have partnered with The Tile Gallery to celebrate high-quality materials that reflect sustainability and elegance in spaces ranging from the residential to the commercial.

Beyond showcasing Lodes’ extensive lighting options, the atmosphere was greatly enhanced by a live saxophone performance. Such a premium sensory experience worked hand in hand with Lodes and The Tile Gallery’s design philosophy.

“We often think of light as something we simply use to see,” mused Massimiliano Tosetto, owner and managing director of Lodes. “But it is also something we feel. Light creates emotion, memories and changes the way we experience a space.” He masterfully explored this broader trend in architecture and interiors, which are focused on longevity and the creation of soothing rituals amid a busy day.

For Kenneth Hing, the president of The Tile Gallery, “Gatherings like these are also about strengthening relationships, exchanging ideas and continuing meaningful conversations that elevate the design community.” Guests were thus invited to an intimate dinner overlooking the Metro Manila skyline, where a curated three-course menu by Margarita Signature Caterer brought the best of Philippine cuisine to the forefront. The seamless connection between Filipino hospitality and Italian craftsmanship made for a truly unforgettable evening.
