Cover The Bennett Custom Sectional is a piece of furniture that enhances the living room's quality as an intimate space

For Ramon Orlina, the choice of furniture is deeply personal, rooted in comfort, style and a dedication to timelessness

The Father of Philippine Glass Sculpture, Ramon Orlina, views both his glass art and furniture as crafts that demand passion and an eye for small details. When approaching the design of his living space, which he says provides “good energy and peace,” he opts for a neutral colour palette to accommodate the frequent changes of the paintings on his walls. Orlina bought the Ethan Allen sectional, which can also convert into a sleeper, for his residence’s family hall connected to his workshop as a practical addition. This exemplifies his philosophy of selecting furniture that is both functional and enduring.

“As an artist, I am always proud of what I exhibit, and I am sure Ethan Allen is the same,” Orlina tells Tatler. “We must always do our best and keep our standards high. Interestingly, I worked in a furniture store when I was younger. It was a great experience and I learnt skills necessary for putting up a business, plus an appreciation for furniture.” Orlina chooses the custom Bennett Leather Sleeper Sectional for its timelessness in design and quality. The Bennett custom leather sectional that Orlina is proud to have in his home is an Ethan Allen icon.

With its generous seating and easy, lived-in elegance, it turns any space into a haven for rest and inspiration. Orlina, considered a significant personality in the art scene and also someone with impeccable taste for fine furniture and interiors, emphasises that these pieces he chose for his residence are “expressions of ourselves.” Among the sculptor’s collections displayed in his eponymous museum in Tagaytay are designer chairs. In his view, furniture is what we interact with daily, and [so] it must combine good design with comfort. “Design should be timeless. Craftsmanship and creation need passion,” Orlina says.

The artist points to its lasting quality, comfort and style, pieces that will last a lifetime. He believes the sofa is the single most important furniture piece to invest in, as it “ties the room together” and serves as the place for shared conversations. His ultimate goal is for guests to sit down and be able to say, “It is nice and comfy.”

Surrounding himself with such thoughtfully crafted pieces is paramount for the renowned glass sculptor, whose works not only add luminescence and brilliance to each of his clients’ homes but also bring vigour to meaningful conversations held in their presence. Indeed, a timeless furniture piece is essential to a life lived in artistry.
