This year’s Singapore Design Week 2025 commemorates the nation’s 60th birthday, looking back at how design has shaped the city over the past six decades
This year, Singapore marks its 60th birthday and to celebrate, the nation is going all out to honour the city’s past six decades. Singapore Design Week is also joining the celebrations with its latest edition commemorating 60 years of the nation’s independence.
Happening from September 11 to 21, the latest edition is themed “Nation by Design” and highlights Singapore’s distinctive design journey. Organised by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), Singapore Design Week 2025 will feature an exciting line-up of events that reflect how design has transformed Singapore and how it will continue to shape the nation for the future.

“As Singapore turns 60, this year’s Singapore Design Week invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come — not by chance, but through deliberate and thoughtful design. Through the lens of ‘Nation by Design’, we want to inspire Singaporeans to see design not just as a creative discipline but as a powerful force for shaping how we live, lead and thrive together as a nation,” shares Dawn Lim, executive director of DesignSingapore Council.
From workshops and tours to exhibitions and networking sessions, we highlight some exciting events to look forward to at Singapore Design Week 2025.
1. Future Impact 3: Design Nation

The third installation of the Future Impact series will be presented at the National Museum of Singapore. Its highly anticipated homecoming follows the showcase’s successful outing at Milan Design Week 2025 earlier this year. Presented in three parts that represent Singapore design’s past, present and future, the showcase features works that demonstrate how design enhances the world we live in.

2. Unnatural History Museum of Singapore

Led by co-founder and creative director of creative agency Kinetic Singapore Pann Lim, this exhibition reframes the nation’s past 60 years of development. Staged at the National Design Centre, explore how the city-state flourishes through deliberate planning and bold design despite the lack of natural resources. Learn about the nation’s most curious creations from hybrid flora and robotic fauna to reimagined landscapes.

3. The Sausage of the Future: Singapore Edition

Making its debut in Asia, this exhibition is designed by Zurich-based Dutch designer and researcher Carolien Niebling’s investigation into one of mankind’s first-ever designed food. The commission presents various innovative sausages inspired by Singapore’s culinary culture and food security needs. The upcoming exhibitions a response to urgent food sustainability challenges such as food waste, biodiversity and preservation.

4. Find — Design Fair Asia

Returning for its fourth edition, this fair brings together over 300 local and international design brands. Happening from September 11 to 13 at Marina Bay Sands, the fair celebrates excellence in furniture, interiors and design. Along with returning showcases from Czech Republic, Thailand, Italy, Singapore and Indonesia, anticipate debuts from Hong Kong and France. Arguably its most successful showcase of Southeast Asia’s young furniture designer showcase, Emerge, will be back too with fresh exhibits.

5. Design for Care

Above Every element in each showcase is curated with both people and the planet in mind
Head to Marina Central and find 10 showcases that explore Care as a spatial, social and environmental design practice. From the materials selected to the designs, every element in each showcase is curated with both people and the planet in mind. Along with the showcase, anticipate a program filled with talks, wellness workshops, music festival and more.

6. Reinvention

At Singapore Science Park, where “reinvention” is the name of the game, explore how cutting-edge technology provides solutions to age-old problems. Explore how tech junk can be repurposed as art installations, witness community care robots improving the lives of humans, and try on surprisingly stylish fashion designed with the needs of people with limited mobility in mind.
Plus, get a taste of future foods meant to maximize sustainability and minimize wastage: think fibre cookies made from beer byproducts and homegrown strawberries sweeter than candy.

7. Another World Is Possible

A key Singapore Design Week 2025 event, the Another World Is Possible exhibition at ArtScience Museum presents a vision of the country far into the future, where “long-term thinking, environmental pragmatism, and an ethic of collective responsibility” actively rebel against the dystopias frequently portrayed in Hollywood media.
Expect visions of speculative architecture, illuminating talks, and cross-discipline world building for a better tomorrow. Of note are the guided tours in English and Mandarin. The English guided tours will take place on September 16 and 20 at 4pm, priced at $5 per pax. Meanwhile the Mandarin guide tours are scheduled for September 20 and 27, 1pm, and are complimentary with each exhibition ticket purchase.

8. Find Your Folks @ Jalan Besar

Find Your Folks @ Jalan Besar is a celebration of local community and all things homegrown, culminating in a two-day street festival on September 20 and 21. Rediscover old-school hardware stores that have withstood the test of time, then grab a cup of coffee or meal at independent cafes and restaurants.
Along the way, venture out of your comfort zone and strike up a conversation or two with the owners of these establishments; they have plenty of stories to tell and even more wisdom to share.

9. Open Design Dialogue (ODD)

The Open Design Dialogue (ODD) at Orchard is a unique opportunity to see how over 80 young creatives and collaborators in Singapore interpret the mission of making Orchard Road a place where they can belong. Led by creative director Jerry Goh of Studio Grain, the venture is spread across multiple locations in Orchard and Somerset.
Be sure to drop by Scape Commune, where a cheekily named “Spicy Chicken Corridor” by Habitat Collective demonstrates how to close the loop between food waste, ecology, and urban life through a mini chicken farm.
