Discover Molteni&C creative director Vincent Van Duysen’s vision for premium Italian craftsmanship in modern kitchen innovation with the VVD Kitchen

For more than 90 years, Molteni&C has built its reputation on an unwavering pursuit of quality. What started as a small artisan workshop for traditional furniture making in the commune of Giussano near Milan, Italy, has, over the decades, evolved into an international design powerhouse, collaborating with renowned architects and designers.

Today, Molteni&C’s Dada Engineered kitchen division has enabled the Italian house to transform the everyday kitchen from a purely functional space into the emotional heart of the home–and no collection captures that evolution more vividly than the VVD Kitchen.

Designed in 2016 by Belgian architect and Molteni&C creative director Vincent Van Duysen, the VVD Kitchen reimagines how the kitchen sits as a piece of inhabitable architecture within a home.

With its bold interplay of proportions, VVD transcends mere functionality to embody a way of living: it is about the pleasure of luxury materials under fingertips, the quiet grace of functionality, and the confidence of design that is as practical as it is poetic.

The VVD Kitchen has evolved since its debut through a growing palette of finishes and modular refinements that allow homeowners to express diverse personalities and adapt to varied lifestyle choices.

Materials include classic stone composites, brushed steel, and richly veined marbles–the most dramatic of which is the newly introduced Lepanto red, a statement island surface that commands the room like a work of art.

These worktops can now be specified in varying thickness–20mm, 60mm, or a bold 150mm–giving homeowners the ability to define whether their kitchen reads as light and contemporary or as monumental and sculptural.

Available in midnight oak, Tuscan brown steel, and the softer palette of cloud grey, cappuccino, warm grey, caramel, and cream, the cabinetry, on the other hand, is conceived as a wardrobe of textures and tones with identical finishing on both sides.

The cabinets are fitted with the PT40 door system with finger recess detailing, rising up to three metres in height, spanning widths from a modest 600mm to a dramatic 2,400mm in double-door form, and configurable to push, pull, or pivot up to 180 degrees.

Morning routines are streamlined with discreet pull-out trays, open-ended drawers, and modular under-top trolleys that make organisation feel effortless; while evenings glow with soft, dimmable 2700K LED lighting that makes the kitchen as inviting after dark as it is during the day.

Furthermore, the VVD Kitchen appears light despite its material weight–thanks to an aluminium load-bearing structure, entire compositions can appear to float. Visually airy, yet structurally robust, the design allows for snack tops to be integrated into the slender, elevated surfaces supported by sculptural bases–perfect for casual meals or conversation over wine.
