Lea Salonga’s latest kitchen renovation has everything she needs for her baking endeavours, thanks to her state-of-the-art appliances

The international theatre luminary, Lea Salonga, finds yet another setting to shine under a different spotlight: her newly renovated kitchen. The same dedication she puts into her career translates into her love of baking, and with Sub-Zero and Wolf ’s state-of-the-art equipment at her fingertips, the stage is set. This isn’t Broadway or West End, but Salonga is sure to shine regardless.  When she first set out to renovate her kitchen, Salonga asked herself, “What do I want?” Her interest in baking motivated her to seek out a multifunctional space designed so that everything is within arm’s reach. At the same time, she wanted all these pieces to come together in harmony to form a cohesive set. Her chosen appliances from Sub-Zero and Wolf exhibited the sophisticated style and functionality that fit her high standards.

The Sub-Zero refrigerator is an art piece in itself. Its vivid lustre lights up the room the moment you walk in, giving the space an uplifting atmosphere. The Wolf convection steam oven and microwave are seamlessly integrated with the cabinetry, creating a sense of continuity and belonging. Yet their distinct style still makes a strong impression. Completing the set, the Wolf range effortlessly complements its surroundings with its classic and enduring design.

These details have created the perfect environment for Salonga to make her favourite, sourdough bread. She even likens herself to it, saying, “For what I do, it takes training and patience. I’m not a rushed recipe. I’m a loaf of sourdough because of how much time and effort it takes to make one.” Thanks to her latest convection steam oven, her bread comes out perfect consistently. Its professional-grade features, including an automatic steam injector, help her loaves stay light and fluffy inside whilst retaining their crispy exterior.

Salonga deeply appreciates the precision and meticulous attention to detail that her equipment affords her. She always wants to get things perfect—whether hitting that right note in her songs or having her bread come out the way she envisions it to. “Things have to be put together in such a way that when it comes out of the oven, it’s correct,” Salonga says. “If I don’t get it right the first time, I’ll try again and figure out what went wrong.”

She reaches for a fruit or crisp vegetable to snack on when she’s not looking to make some bread. But her favourite is, without a doubt, bok choy. This, along with the other greens she indulges in, is kept fresh for longer thanks to the Sub-Zero’s dual refrigeration system. This provides a separate environment for both the refrigerator and the freezer, ensuring no air is exchanged between the two. The integrated air purification system also means she doesn’t have to worry about items ripening or spoiling too quickly. “On the right side, by the drawers, there’s a cheat sheet for what you can store together, how you can store the fruits and vegetables,” Salonga shares. “I didn’t realise I needed it until it was there!” Better known as freshness cards, these handy guides provide simple storage recommendations for fresher food that lasts even longer.
