Italian design legend revolutionises outdoor luxury with sustainable materials and timeless comfort
In the rarefied world of high-end furniture design, few names command as much respect as Edra, the Tuscan manufacturer whose avant-garde pieces now rest in the permanent collections of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Paris’ Centre Pompidou, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
In 2004, Edra unveiled “On the Rocks,” a revolutionary sofa by Francesco Binfaré that introduced Gellyfoam, a proprietary polyurethane material adapted from medical-grade gelatin. The innovative design set a new standard for adaptive comfort, with Edra co-founder and vice-president Monica Mazzei noting, “The more time you spend with it, the more it embraces you.”
This blend of innovation and comfort has attracted a devoted following, including reality TV star turned entrepreneur Kendall Jenner, whose choice of an Edra sofa for her home reflects the brand’s growing appeal among a new generation of design enthusiasts.

In its latest chapter, following its debut at Milan Design Week, Edra has brought its groundbreaking indoor-outdoor collection to Southeast Asian shores, now available at Space Furniture in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The collection represents a marriage of luxury and environmental consciousness, with fabrics woven from recycled plastic bottles, specifically treated PET material. These materials undergo a rigorous development process: colour is embedded during thread extrusion, and subsequent treatments render the fabric fireproof and weather-resistant.

The collection, available in eight colourways ranging from pristine white to deep black, with stops at sand, pearl, moss blue, and cobalt, demonstrates Edra's commitment to both aesthetics and functionality.
The fabrics’ ability to withstand direct sunlight, salt air, and varying weather conditions makes them particularly suitable for luxury outdoor settings, from poolside lounges to yacht decks.

Signature pieces, including “On the Rocks” and “Sherazade,” have been reimagined with these innovative materials.
Each maintains the company’s hallmark comfort, whether placed on a sun-drenched terrace or in an elegant indoor setting. This reflects Edra’s ongoing mission: to create furniture that’s not just used but experienced, regardless of its environment.
