The German sanitaryware brand unveils four enviable collections with unique designer signatures, sealed with Duravit's unmistakable touch

Many of us strive to keep our homes visually stimulating, filling them up with products that appeal to our senses with their striking designs and covetable appearances. However, our natural gravitation towards these may also lead us to make purchasing decisions at the expense of quality and durability, especially in today's fast-paced world where disposable goods have become the norm.

Duravit, a German name known for its high-quality bathroom fixtures, readily appeases both needs through its extensive ranges today. Just last March 2023, at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt, the brand exhibited its Artisan Lines: a series of timeless, modern collections with hand-crafted character, bearing the individual signatures of its designers as well as the level of precision and craftsmanship that is innately Duravit’s.

As harmonious as they are unique, the Artisan Lines were developed by renowned international designers Philippe Starck, Sebastian Herkner, Christian Werner, and Studio F. A. Porsche. Read on to take a closer look and find out which collection is the ideal match for you:

Bento Starck Box by Philippe Starck

This bathroom range from Philippe Starck is a testament of what exacting precision and skilled craftsmanship bring to the table, all while evoking the captivating minimalism of Japanese style. The French designer draws inspiration from traditional bento boxes that create separate compartments through interior dividers. Thus, for the Bento Starck Box collection, there are clearly separated wet and dry areas to open up an endless number of individual design options.

You can instantly observe this in the sleek washbasins of the range, which purvey generously proportioned storage space for the products and accessories you use regularly. Ensuring that they will always be ready at your disposal, this very practical and convenient feature allows you to organise your sink area accordingly while making it an effortless design statement.

“Organisation is freedom, especially when it’s elegant,” added Starck, describing the Bento Starck Box washbasins and bathtub. As such, another highlight of the bathroom series is the free-standing acrylic bathtub, which exhibits a surrounding, sloping channel to prevent residual water and to set your personal care items on. A gently rounded headrest completes the rejuvenating wellness experience you can spend in the tub, where a threshold of serenity is always within reach.

Zencha by Sebastian Herkner

Similarly taking inspiration from Japan—or more particularly the country’s time-honoured rituals and dedication to craftsmanship—German designer Sebastian Herkner plays on the contrast of graceful curves and striking linearity in the Zencha collection. With this carefully curated balance, Herkner succeeds in creating a complete range that transforms your bathroom and further underscores how it is a place of retreat and relaxation.

The outstanding highlight of the Zencha basins and bathtub exists in its graceful, outward-curving edges, juxtaposing beautifully with the minimalist furniture in the bathroom series. These fixtures in neutral hues are modular, convenient and versatile, as open shelves or soft-closing drawers elevate the everyday experience. Additionally inspired by the sculpted form of Japanese tea bowls, the above-counter basins are made of sturdy DuraCeram® to ensure longevity for its users.

The free-standing bathtub is likewise manufactured with DuraSolid®, eliciting a blissful immersion into deep water like a Japanese onsen bath. In terms of sizes, there are two compact versions and a rectangular one at 1800x900 mm that comes with the option for an air whirl system, letting you to enjoy a soothing massage whenever long, busy days take their toll.

Vitrium by Christian Werner

“For me, the bathroom is a comfortable refuge for wellness and contemplation,” echoes German designer Christian Werner, who collaborates with Duravit to offer the Vitrium series. Thus focused on invoking warmth and cosiness through his design, Werner’s collection aims to deliver a sense of security and luxury even in the smallest of bathrooms.

There are two different types of washbasins to choose from: a linear console vanity that is combined with a slightly overhanging, rounded sink and a built-in rectangular sink that comes preassembled into compact cabinets. Manufactured using the mineral casting technique, the basins have a velvety surface of DuroCast UltraResist that invite an extraordinary tactile experience—and when paired with tastefully lit furniture, they underpin the elegant yet homely atmosphere of the designer bathroom range.

The cabinetry doors can either come finished in solid, natural materials or in backlit PARSOL, the brand’s choice of tinted, semi-transparent glass. Nearly bearing a resemblance to the fireplace, the vanity brings a touch of warmth to the bathroom and simultaneously serves as a showcase for your daily essentials, be it cosmetics or accessories. Coupled with a variety of customisation possibilities, the Vitrium range is sure to make the bathroom your favourite sanctuary.

Qatego by Studio F. A. Porsche

Likewise embracing the clean, natural look, the Qatego bathroom range was made by the renowned designers of Studio F. A. Porsche with an unmistakable design language. Available in three different versions, the washbasins’ stone consoles are a clear reference to nature and its unique, intricate beauty, as reflected in the varying colours and veining of each slab.

Either attached directly to the wall or fitted on a wooden console, these surfaces are crafted to match the Qatego collection’s ceramic countertop sinks in perfect accord. On top of boasting a very durable make and a surface treatment that makes it easy to care for, the stone slabs also feature built-in compartments with gentle curves to provide practical storage for products and accessories.

For Qatego, Studio F. A. Porsche design director Henning Rieseler describes their creative process as “lending the objects a strong emotional quality that goes beyond mere functionality”. They achieve this firstly through their generous use of evocative materials, and then holistically through the harmony of quality design and ideal comfort evinced in the series.
