Borrow inspiration from the influential music and fashion tastemaker’s modern home in Berlin that takes cues from her vibrant cool-girl aesthetic
Peggy Gou has indeed become a global sensation to watch. The Berlin-based South Korean is paving the future of next-gen female DJs with how she is infiltrating the music scene worldwide with her infectious ‘K-house’ tunes like Starry Night and It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) that subvert the norms of electronic music and record label, Gudu. In fact, she just released her latest viral hit, (It Goes Like) Nanana for the summer last week and is now making a pit-stop here in Singapore to perform this Friday at Tao Group’s nightclub concept, Marquee Singapore.
Beyond her music-making, the iconic DJ has also had a chance to dabble in the design world. With a background at the London College of Fashion, Gou established her fashion label, Kirin, right after her music career began taking off in 2019. Three years later, the multi-hyphenate even became a part of a furniture collaboration with the ecological design studio, Space Available.

Driven by so much creativity, it is no wonder that Gou settled down with a home in the electronic music and design capital, Berlin, or how her modern-style living quarters echo her uniquely vivid personal tastes. Below, we discover some of her home styling secrets and the ingredients to creating a similarly vibrant space with an undeniable cool-girl aesthetic.

1. Pick a bold coloured sofa

When you first look at Gou’s home, one of the most striking elements in her living space has got to be the iconic coloured sofa in her living space; where she lounges about or is in the background of her mirror selfies. Currently, she has opted for a long modular sofa as seen with her current green pick from Stage Interior, a new purchase for her abode last winter. Though previously, the sofa that was a mainstay in her home was the 370 sofa from the Parisian atelier, Pierre Augustin Rose, that lent a touch of softness with its lovely powder blue hue, gentle curves, and a matching pouf.
2. Turn a bespoke cabinet system into a feature wall

Above Forget a feature wall, opt for a floor-to-ceiling cabinet system where you can accesorise and stack your favourite home decor and design objects (Photo: Instagram / @peggygou_)
A unique way Gou’s abode draws attention to the living space is with the construction of a cabinet system as opposed to a feature wall. Just look at the bespoke wooden cabinetry by Berlin-based furniture and interior design studio Johannes Grune that takes up floor-to-ceiling real estate. Not only is it functional but can be made stylish like how Gou has accessorised hers with a choice of decorative objects, an Astroboy Bearbrick, Kaws figurines, and an Artemide Nessino lamp.
3. Add a splattering touch

For a unique look and feel, opt for a statement coffee table like the one Gou has from Dirk Vander Kooij that is reminiscent of a beautiful collage. Similar to this the DJ-designer herself previously released a eco-chair with Space Available that is made in Bali, Indonesia from recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packaging and plastic waste left on the shores of the neighbouring island, Java. The chair design features an under-seat storage unit for vinyl records and a construction of plastic sheets that features a melted spiral pattern that adopts a technique used by interior designer Max Lamb.

Beyond the functional pieces of furniture, another way to do this is to pick out a carpet with an almost liquefied design. In the case of Gou, she has done so in her spaces with the Say Touché rug, which is the South Korean design label’s quirky iteration of the conventional Persian-style rug.

4. Make an art collector hobby your decor

It is no doubt that Gou has a love for contemporary art, especially with how it is scattered across her home and lends a personal touch. Whether it is the commissioned ring-like wall sculpture in hues of a rainbow by Studio Olafur Eliasson and her miniature Jeff Koons Balloon Dog in shiny gold, or her Korean-made pieces like her glassware from Jaehuh studio, a framed print of a car photographed by image-maker Mok Jungwook and the statement lighted wall sculpture, You Are My Burning Light wall sculpture by Wonwoo Lee, previously hung in her main foyer.
5. Can’t get enough of coffee table books

The kind of books you keep can tend to speak to someone’s character, and with Gou’s artful collection, we predict that her selections are possibly a source that fuels her inspiration. Besides the idea of coffee table books as part of a home aesthetic, why not be like the creative maven and choose those that are both conversation starters and ones that you will genuinely gravitate towards in your spare time? Some spotted in her book collection include Snacky Tunes: Music is the Main Ingredient, Chefs and Their Music, and No School Manifesto: A Movement of Creative Education.
6. A dedicated creative studio

For the hobbyists and professionals, there is nothing like having a studio to practice your art and craft. In Gou’s home, she has her own music studio to record and practice in that is decked out in loud blues, greens, and oranges. Inside what lies around include, countless vinyl records, turntables, KRK gold speakers, a mic stand, iMac, and several keyboards including a Rhodes piano that is perfect for the genre-bending artist.
