Fashion house partners with Vista Alegre to create shape-shifting glassware in jewel tones

The art of Bohemian crystal—with its centuries-old legacy of mouth-blown, hand-cut excellence—has found a new champion in Christian Lacroix Maison.

The storied fashion house’s debut crystal collection, Rêve de Cristal, employs these time-honoured techniques to create pieces that sparkle with modern ingenuity: wine glasses that transform into digestif vessels with a simple inversion and chalices lined with jewel-toned hues of lapis lazuli and tourmaline.

For Creative Director Sacha Walckhoff, this venture into crystal marks an exciting evolution in the house’s fifteen-year collaboration with Vista Alegre. While the Portuguese manufacturer, renowned for both porcelain and crystal work, has been crafting Lacroix’s porcelain collections since their partnership began, this is their first crystal collection together.

The collection’s versatility is showcased in five distinctive pieces. The Vie Parisienne tumbler offers a spectrum of coloured glass linings, from deep lapis lazuli to rich emerald, agate, and tourmaline.

The Feria red wine glass features an innovative design with a sapphire-coloured stem that doubles as a liqueur glass when inverted. Its white wine counterpart, the Suerte, mirrors this functionality with an aquamarine stem.

Perhaps the most dramatic piece is the Soir de Fête chalice, a champagne glass with a blown glass foot and a lapis-lazuli-coloured cut crystal bowl. The “Vuelta” vase completes the collection, available in tourmaline or lapis lazuli, which can also serve as a candle holder.

“This collection represents a natural progression in our decorative arts journey,” said Walckhoff, whose diverse heritage—spanning Slavic, French, Swiss, and African roots—has informed his creative direction since taking the helm in 2010.

With Rêve de Cristal, Christian Lacroix Maison has not only expanded its tableware offerings but has also demonstrated how traditional craftsmanship can be reimagined for contemporary living.
