A trophy signifies success, might and influence. These are some of the qualities that Italian heritage manufacturer Barovier & Toso aimed to celebrate through a unique series of glass pieces created for Tatler Homes Design Awards - Singapore. Like the contemporary update of a medieval chalice, each glass trophy is hand-formed by Italian artisans in Murano, Italy, where the headquarters of the legacy brand is sited in. Its sculptural design is the brainchild of Sara Pedrali, head of design and technical department, and Marco Canal, project developer and designer of Barovier & Toso.

Founded in 1295, the brand’s glassmaking repertoire fuses centuries-old time-tested skills with modern and contemporary forms. Recent notable projects by the Italian manufacturer include the Spinn installation for the Bulgari Hotel Beijing in China completed in 2017, and another bespoke installation for the Bulgari Hotel Paris in 2021, which are among the beautiful bevy of residential and hospitality projects that the Italian brand has worked on. In Singapore, its glass creations were commissioned for luxury brands and adorn stores such as the Louis Vuitton boutique in Takashimaya, Dolce Gabbana in Ion Orchard, and Hublot in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
While it is most famously associated with its dramatic glass chandeliers, Barovier & Toso has steadily expanded its product selection over the years by teaming up with notable designers around the world to create modern and contemporary decorative designs. This unique trophy collaboration with Tatler Homes Singapore is a first for the Italian maker, and represents the many creative possibilities of its glassmaking repertoire; these include traditional glass-blowing and shaping techniques that Barovier & Toso is renowned for.

When it came to the design of the Tatler Homes Design Awards trophy, the team conveyed the art of glassmaking through the soaring form of the glass pieces. To put quite literally a modern twist on the trophy design, each piece combines a hexagonal structure with flowing lines that extend in an upward motion.
This striking form expresses a sense of visual movement and embodies the malleability of glass. The hexagonal motif engraved at its base also alludes to the history of the award ceremony, which recently celebrated its seventh edition in Singapore and had formerly included a hexagonal form in its logo during its earlier years.

Each trophy is coloured in a brown hue; a rich and earthy shade that was selected to convey the gravitas and aptitude of an award winner. A hand inscription featuring the brand name and the numbered edition adds another personal touch to the design. Each trophy rests on a hexagonal gold-hued base and is matched with a mirrored finish engraved plate to add a sheen to the design.
