This will be the fifth year at the helm of the cultural event for the poet, performer and musician

Poet and performer Pooja Nansi will continue to lead the Singapore Writers Festival in 2023 as festival director. This marks her fifth year at the helm.

The annual multilingual event, organised by Art House Limited and commissioned by the National Arts Council, puts a spotlight on literary talents and icons from Southeast Asia and across the world. It brings together writers, academics and thought leaders to engage the local audience through workshops, talks, lectures and performances.

Since taking over the reins in 2019, Nansi has continued to reach out to diverse audiences, from youths to special needs individuals. She has also strengthened the event’s multilingual character through collaborations with mother tongue language literary groups.

At the height of the pandemic in 2021, the festival held its first fully digital edition and saw guest speakers such as Fear Street author RL Stine and Tan France of the Netflix reality series Queer Eye

In 2022, the festival returned live and saw record audience numbers. Held over three weekends instead of the usual two, it featured a new outdoor Festival Village for visitors to explore.

“The Singapore Writers Festival is beloved and has been pivotal and formative to my own personal growth as a writer and to the growth of our literary scene over the years,” says Nansi on continuing in the role. “I look forward to working with NAC and AHL in 2023 on an SWF that continues to offer inclusive, engaging and accessible programming for local and global audiences.”

The 26th edition of the Singapore Writers Festival will be held from November 17 to 26, 2023.
