Malaysian Gen.T honourees Yeo Bee Yin, Syahredzan Johan and Prabakaran Parameswaran have won seats in their respective constituencies during the country's recent elections

Malaysia's recently concluded 15th general election on November 19 was historic. Partly as three Gen.T honourees—Yeo Bee Yin, Syahredzan Johan and Prabakaran Parameswaran—won in their respective constituencies. Their achievements contributed to the 82 seats for the Pakatan Harapan coalition, making it the political party with the most seats this time.

That total, however, was insufficient to command a simple majority of 112 out of the total 222 seats in Malaysia's parliament. The results led to a hung parliament, where no coalition was able to form the next government.

Yesterday, after five days of uncertainty, the King finally announced that Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim would be the country's 10th Prime Minister.

Yeo Bee Yin entered politics at 29 years old, winning the Bakri parliamentary seat in Malaysia’s 2018 general elections. She was then appointed by the Prime Minister to head the biggest portfolio in the cabinet; as Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, she implemented a nationwide ban on the import of plastic waste. She also published a 12-year roadmap that included a legal framework for eliminating single-use plastics by the year 2030. After 20 months in office, Yeo concluded her ministerial duty in February 2020.

During the 15th Malaysian General Election, she won the Puchong seat for the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
