Bee Yin entered politics aged 29, winning the Bakri parliamentary seat in Malaysia’s 2018 general election, and was appointed by the Prime Minister to head the biggest portfolio in the cabinet. As Minister of Energy, Science,Technology, Environment and Climate Change, she implemented a nationwide ban on the import of plastic waste and published a 12-year roadmap that includes a legal framework for eliminating single-use plastics by 2030. After 20 months in office, she concluded her ministerial duty in February 2020. During the 15th Malaysian General Election Yeo won the Puchong seat for the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
