The master of haute French cuisine, whose eponymous restaurant topped La Liste 2023 for the sixth consecutive year, shares with Tatler his favourite restaurant, one sport he’s bad at, and the best compliment he’s ever received

Gourmands often make a trip to Paris, France for a legendary meal at three-Michelin-starred restaurant Guy Savoy, which recently topped the La Liste 2023 for the sixth year running with an impressive score of 99.5 points (he shares the top spot with Frantzén in Stockholm, Sweden and Le Bernardin in New York, USA).

It is no surprise when you have culinary icon, Guy Savoy, at the helm. Thanks to his mother, who he credits as his greatest culinary inspiration, the decorated chef learned early on that cooking is a “magical experience”. At the age of 15, he started working in the kitchens of the late chocolate maker Louis Marchand, and Frères Troisgros at Lion d'Or.

This was the start of a long and impressive career in the kitchen, which saw him mentoring up-and-coming chefs (who have become culinary superstars in their own right) and opening restaurants across the globe, which garnered multiple accolades. Apart from his restaurant in Paris, he also runs Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

At the age of 69, Savoy shows no signs of slowing down, and you will often see him welcoming and cooking for guests at his Paris restaurant. Tatler correspondent (and founder of non-profit organisation Women Venture Asia in Singapore), Harmin Kaur visited the master of haute cuisine on her recent trip to Paris to find out Savoy’s favourite restaurant, the kitchen utensil he can’t live without, and the best compliment he’s ever received.
