Learn all about painter Tracie Anglo-Dizon, the woman who created the artwork on the cover of the Tatler Dining Guide 2023

This creative force has been dabbling in art since she was a child, and grew up to become a respected painter in her own right. After going to art school, and working professionally as an art director, she fully immersed herself into her craft and became a full-time painter. With a range of collaborations and solo exhibitions under her name, Anglo-Dizon has tons more up her sleeves, and we cannot wait to see what is next.

Tell us about the art you have created. What is the story of the foodie memory and the inspiration behind it?
I actually paint plates (I share my passion for plates with my mom and sister) and so I thought, what better way to present food than on a plate. For this artwork, I put together an amalgamation of details from different paintings to create a visual food memory. I grew up in Bacolod and at home we always had eggs for breakfast, garlic rice, and dried fish–my dad loves it. During birthdays or special occasions, we always had lechon, inasal, and isaw.

Why do you love food and consider yourself a foodie?

I don’t consider myself a foodie but I love food and people who love food. I grew up with a brother who became a chef and I married a guy who worships food (aside from me). Food is adventure. Food is pleasure. Food is life.

Describe your style as an artist.

I explore the concept of beauty in my work. I guess stylistically I combine realism with abstract strokes. I paint plates, jars, birds–things that interest me. Lately I’ve been painting faces.

What is your favourite medium to work with and why?

I like working in acrylic and oil. Acrylic because it dries fast and gives you a certain flatness. Oil because it has depth. Also, if you make a mistake you can just paint over it.

What was it like to have been inspired by food for this project?

I enjoyed it so much I’m thinking of incorporating it into my work again!
