From a plant-based meal subscription service and a vegan pizzeria to a vegetarian institution that has been feeding Manila since 1990, these are the best places to order vegan and vegetarian food in Metro Manila

Eating out as a vegetarian in Metro Manila used to mean settling for the side dishes. That is no longer the case. Whether you follow a plant-based diet full-time or simply find yourself reaching for the meat-free options more often than not, the city’s vegan and vegetarian dining scene has grown into something worth exploring, from dedicated restaurants and meal subscription services to neighbourhood spots with menus that can hold their own against anything else on the table. Below, Tatler Dining rounds up the best, drawn from our editors’ picks and the most enthusiastic recommendations from our readers.

This list is in alphabetical order.

1. Corner Tree Café

This plant-based institution may have moved from its original Jupiter Street home to a cosy new space in Poblacion, but their commitment to vegetarian (and vegan) comfort food remains. The arroz à la Cubana is still a firm crowd-favourite, while their kiddie spaghetti and “meatballs” are enjoyed by all ages. Unafraid to explore various cuisines, the restaurant also offers dishes like bibimbap, falafels, Thai curry and many more.

2. Cosmic

With restaurants in Poblacion, Kapitolyo, Zamboanga and now Alabang, Cosmic is another tried-and-tested favourite for those seeking plant-based options. First time at Cosmic? Don’t miss the sisig or kare-kare, which remain their best-selling items. While the majority of the menu leans Filipino, they do have items like lasagna, tempura and apple pie, too.

3. Forget Meat!

From ready-to-cook products to heat-and-eat meals, Forget Meat! is your one-stop shop for plant-based comfort food. Pick up some frozen tapa, longganisa, or embutido to stock at home for the next time the craving hits, or dig straight into their tofu picadillo, baked mac in white sauce, or buko pie. Beyond its affordable price point, our readers highlight the home-cooked feel of their dishes, with one reader noting “para ka pinag luto ng nanay mo.”

4. Gatto Slice

Believe it or not, these pizzas are 100 per cent vegan—yes, even the burrata and cheeseburger pizzas. Gatto Slice takes their cruelty-free philosophy to the next level by allocating a portion of the proceeds toward the benefit of cats, be it through feeding initiatives, trap-neuter-vaccinate-return programmes, donations to Cats of Legaspi Village, and even fostering cats themselves. Find them at their next pop-up or order your pizzas online.

5. Green Bar

Another reader favourite, this plant-based restaurant located in Legazpi Village offers an all-day menu from breakfast to dinner—and even cocktails. Their baked goods are another highlight, with their doughnuts selection as the most popular pick. Sisters Jaderani and Sarada Santos founded Green Bar in 2014, making all their plant-based “meats”, “cheeses”, sauces and sweets in-house.

6. Greenery Kitchen

Malunggay dilis, salpicao, liempo, papaitan—these are just a handful of the vegan-friendly dishes available at Greenery Kitchen in Makati, for dine-in, takeout or delivery. In need of gluten-free options, or prefer them to hold the onion and garlic? They will gladly accommodate, too.

7. Outtahere

The runaway reader favourite

Outtahere specialises in plant-based meal subscriptions, delivering two meals a day, five days a week. Their plans span global cuisines—Vietnamese noodle salad, jap chae, white bean green pasta salad, and Arabic majboos all in the same week. Got a bigger appetite? You can also tack on additional dishes or order à la carte. They’ve recently added macro counts to each of their dishes too.

8. The Plant-Based Project PH

The Plant-Based Project PH offers one of the more creatively formatted menus on this list—vegan grazing boxes alongside kalye platters, pigs in a blanket, bolognese and more. Look out for their vegan buffet at their McKinley Hill or Quezon City restaurants, or order online for delivery.

9. The Real Happy Cow

A concept by Cura Kitchens, The Real Happy Cow offers “omnivore-approved plant-based food”, from seven-layer dip and palabok to beef rendang and longganisa pasta. Shop their meals ready-to-eat or frozen to stock at home, and consider adding pantry staples like pimento spread or dairy-free cheese powder.

10. Through Habit

This 100 per cent plant-based café in New Manila goes beyond beverages with a proper menu of vegan-friendly meals. Looking for a snack? Consider the kamote crisps, cauliflower poppers, or mushroom calamari. After something more substantial? Try the Greenwich pesto sandwich, the mac and cheese with mushroom bacon, or their tofu sisig rice.

11. The Vegetarian Kitchen

Established in 1990, The Vegetarian Kitchen makes vegan-friendly versions of your favourite comfort food, from Filipino staples like pancit palabok and batchoy to more global items like grilled seitan steak sandwich and tomato-basil soup. Dine at their Quezon City restaurant, order online or even sign up for one of their cooking classes.

12. Vutcher

Craving empanadas, binagoongan, corned beef or even Bicol express? Head to Vutcher to order vegan-friendly frozen goods or party platters. In addition to their own product line, the Vutcher Grocer also carries items like frozen berries, frozen veggies, nutritional yeast and more.

13. Wabi-Sabi Noodle House

Don’t let the name fool you—Wabi-Sabi Noodle House goes well beyond noodles. Apart from their selection of pho, ramen and tom yum, you’ll also find dumplings, spring rolls and even kakigori from their sister concept, Ikigai Cafe.

14. Wild

Part café and bar, part art lounge, Wild in Poblacion boasts a wide selection of food and beverages from 9am to 12 midnight. Think: banana brûlée latte, coconut matcha, burgers, “chikn” sandwiches and cocktails. Check out their socials to find their upcoming calendar of events—previous events include weekend markets, book launches, watercolour sessions and more.
