Three X Co was recently awarded one of Tatler Asia’s Best 100 Bars of 2025
While Three X Co has offered a place for respite over craft cocktails for the past eight years, it is really in the last three it has made waves on the global map. “We’ve grown from a hidden speakeasy behind a barber shop into a brand recognised beyond Malaysia,” founder Angeline Tan smiles.
Even though the brand has grown, its spirit and driving formula have stayed the same from the beginning—honouring the people who have made the brand what it is today. Tan is often endearingly referred to as the “mama” of the bar industry, even beyond Malaysia, recognised for her generosity and selflessness which extends to all she meets. To recount just one of many personal experiences, she once insisted on singlehandedly fetching every single person to a shift during KL Cocktail Week, refusing everyone’s attempts to order a Grab.

The idea for Three X Co was first born in 2017, when Tan, her husband, Wong Wai Hung, and close friend Daniel Gunawan noticed a gap in the craft cocktail market and took a leap of faith, signing a lease even before they had a concept in mind. “We knew from the very start we wanted to serve good classics and signatures inspired by the flavours we grew up with,” she continues. “From day one, we agreed the foundation had to be hospitality, storytelling, and education, as the scene was so young then.”

Running a business in such a tumultuous industry, highly affected by market changes and the economy, undoubtedly takes resilience and strength. “We never set out to be the trendiest bar, but wanted to build something meaningful,” she says. “Our focus has always been great hospitality, well-crafted drinks and storytelling through culture.”

Even the menu, titled Individuality, is an ode to its community, recognising that no two individuals are the same, with each person’s quirks and idiosyncrasies. Hence, it only makes sense that for their eight anniversary, they are inviting some of their closest friends in the industry for a shift.
“Many people are familar with bars in Shanghai, Guangzhou or even Shenzhen but not many are aware of the bars in Northern China,” Tan enthuses. Three X Co’s anniversary is happening this Monday, December 8th, featuring Bar Long Fong Beijing, Camelot Dalian, and Sihe Beijing, and it’s not one you want to miss.
