The five-star hotel’s annual client appreciation event was a splash among guests with its grand venue, exquisite catering and homage to Shanghainese style
The glamour of Shanghai never fades—a declaration that One Farrer Hotel has done well to remember. “Old Shanghai Chinoiserie Nostalgia” was the theme on February 15 for the five-star hotel’s annual appreciation event for its clients and partners, right smack in the middle of Chinese New Year. The jewel of One Farrer Hotel’s calendar, the evening was replete with bespoke menus and performances for a crowd of over 400 in its grand ballroom.
Colonial Shanghai, of course, was at the forefront of style in the 1920s–30s, with its unique vantage point as a port city receiving both eastern and western influences. Nowhere is this better seen than the stylish chinoiserie, the European imitation of Chinese aesthetics developed from the 17th century. Glamorous and cosmopolitan—all of these things were distilled in One Farrer Hotel’s ballroom on February 15, with elegant flower and paper centrepieces and decorations.

The evening commenced with an impressive 45-metre long yu sheng toss in the ballroom foyer, bookended by lit-up head and tail ornaments. Six courses of French-Chinese delicacies followed, such as the lobster tail done in two ways, crafted by executive chef Marcus Tan. Dessert paid homage to the iconic mandarin, the essential Chinese New Year fruit, with a kumquat confit and mandarin sorbet delicately placed inside of a mandarin orange in a pristine presentation.

It wouldn’t be an evening without some entertainment, and that night, the 400-strong crowd was serenaded by Marcelito Pomoy, the winner of the second season of Pilipinas Got Talent and the third runner up for America’s Got Talent: The Champions Edition. Famed for his ability to sing in both baritone and mezzo-soprano, his talents shone through with the ever-popular Teresa Teng song, “The Moon Represents My Heart”.
It was not hard to be impressed by an event of this magnitude—one that could only have been achieved with the precision and experience of One Farrer Hotel’s professional team. From the food to the decoration and the planning, excellence can be expected.
