Find new menus and inventive plates at Carbon, Nep, Olea, and more

The city’s dining scene is never stagnant, constantly evolving to include new openings while allowing celebrated restaurants to breathe new life into their offerings. Over the last month, restaurants integral to Kuala Lumpur’s culinary landscape have reinvented their menus in celebration of milestones, to reflect seasonal produce, and further explore each facet of their philosophies.

We’ve compiled some recently revamped menus from names you’re probably already familiar with. From Carbon’s refreshed offerings to Nep’s small plates driven by local flavours, here are five new menus you should try this month.

Carbon

Tucked away from the bustle of the city, Carbon is best known for its flame-kissed fare and menus that spotlight seasonal produce. In its latest lineup, you can expect percik-style stuffed chicken wing dotted with caviar, a play on pie tee featuring grilled squid, pickled jicama, and smoked tobiko, octopus paired with fragrant bunga kantan sambal, Argentinian beef alongside mole crafted from Chocolate Concierge’s chocolate, and a red wine-poached jambu air sweet course plated with gorgonzola infused pastry cream.

Menus rotate consistently at George Town’s Nep and its newest collection, available from now until December, is one not to be missed. Tapas-style plates that celebrate local flavours define the dining experience here, imbuing the ritual of tucking into small plates paired with glasses of natural wine with a distinctly Malaysian twist.

You’ll find lamb tartare paired with papadum crackers, grilled octopus with daun petai siam, coriander sambal prawns, an onde-onde-inspired dessert of coconut cake and gula Melaka cream, and more.

Olea

Famed for its Mediterranean sharing plates, Olea has bid farewell to some of its creations to welcome an exciting new assortment of dishes. While its seafood orzo firmly (and rightfully) remains on its menu, meals here can now take shape with pan seared halloumi with thyme infused honey and mixed olives, grilled squid paired with a charred aubergine puree, dollops of tahini yogurt, and a drizzle of za’atar oil, leek orecchiette, beef ribeye skewers on a bed of house made labneh, and a chocolate tart with caramel and macadamia cream.
