11 new entries make their way onto the Michelin Bib Gourmand this year for a total of 81 establishments on the list

There are many adjectives to describe Singapore’s food scene, but “expensive” is not one of them, as the Michelin Bib Gourmand proves. This year, the Michelin Guide inducted 11 new establishments to the Michelin Bib Gourmand list in 2024, nine of which are brand new entries to the Guide and two of which have been shifted up from the Michelin Selected category. The resulting list totals 81 establishments for the year spread across the island, up from 79 in last year’s selection.

According to the Michelin Guide, the Bib Gourmand is dedicated to spotlighting establishments that offer “exceptional value-for-money gourmet experiences”. It’s not hard to pack the list for Singapore, which has a vibrant hawker culture with accessible prices—something that Gwendal Poullenac, the international director of the Michelin Guide, appreciates. Pointing out the “integral” role of hawker centres in our “everyday life” as a “microcosm of [Singapore’s] multi-ethnic society”, he says that this year’s list, which includes “rich cultural traditions” in both new spots and “long-serving heritage hawkers”, “reflects the dynamic and diverse smorgasbord of eateries in the casual and hawker category”.

Poullenac also points out that more young people are manning the kitchens behind these establishments, with even “formally trained chefs willing to join the ranks of hawkers”. “We are hopeful that Singaporeans are embracing their traditional food culture with an open mindset, allowing it to flourish more in the future,” he says.

Among the nine new entrants to the Michelin Bib Gourmand is Fico, the casual Italian restaurant by chef-owner Mirko Febbrile famous for its pasta and focaccina, which has earned a reputation of being one of the hardest restaurants to book in Singapore.

Chef Ang Song Kang (better known as Chef Kang), whose private dining outing has one Michelin star, is now also able to claim a Bib Gourmand for his Toa Payoh noodle concept, Chef Kang’s Noodle House.

Elsewhere, famed hawkers have also made the list for the first time. Delhi Lahori at Tekka Centre has pleased inspectors with its naan baked in its clay oven, while Jason Penang Cuisine at Bukit Merah, with its char kway teow and Penang assam laksa, has won over foodies.

Thai cuisine also gets its turn in the spotlight with MP Thai at Vision Exchange. Not to forget the famed Margaret Drive Sin Kee Chicken Rice, serving up the simple pleasure of this famed Singaporean dish.

Moving up from the Michelin Selected category is Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee, which has served its umami-laden prawn noodles for over 70 years. Accompanying it is Ru Ji Kitchen, which sells noodles studded with either minced pork, pork balls or fishballs.
