The new venture, in collaboration with Jia Group, will open in mid-November
Indian chef Manav Tuli, formerly of Chaat at Rosewood Hong Kong, is set to open Leela, his first solo project in collaboration with Yenn Wong of Jia Group. Opening in mid-November, the restaurant will offer a playful approach to Indian cuisine in Causeway Bay’s Lee Garden Three.
Leela, derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Lila’, is used to describe the creative play of the divine and holds significant symbolic meaning in Hinduism. Inspired by this, Leela will present a “culinary playground” with a cuisine that connects Indian tradition and innovation.
Tuli, known for his humility and dedication to the craft, stands at the forefront of this new dining destination and has created a la carte and set menu offerings that will highlight dishes influenced by the Mauryan dynasty, the largest empire in Indian history, in which locality and seasonality were key. The kitchen will use local meat, vegetables, grains and spices sourced from the likes of Prime Organic Limited, Farmhouse Productions, Hong Kong Aquaculture and Wah Kee Farms.
The restaurant takes over a bright and spacious Italian furniture showroom in Lee Garden Three that also comes with an outdoor terrace and has been redesigned by acclaimed designer André Fu with modern elegance in mind. Leela’s mission toward sustainability will also be demonstrated with recycled corn paper menus and a commitment to a plastic-free environment.
