With a refreshed menu and an elegant design update, Langkawi's only Chinese fine dining restaurant welcomes back diners to its splendid oceanfront space

After two long years, Hai Yan at The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi has reopened. The pandemic had been hard on everyone but the prolonged pause also offered an opportunity to re-energise, which is what had happened to Hai Yan, which is looking better than ever and poised to make a strong comeback.

Overlooking the Andaman Sea, Hai Yan, which translates to mean Treasures of the Sea in Chinese, is the resort's fine dining Chinese restaurant, and the only one of this level on the entire island.

Executive sous chef Jay Goh's creations showcase his skills and philosophy of "globally-inspired and locally-created" cuisine, with a menu built around premium ingredients.

Classic favourites like Peking Duck, Wok-Fried Black Angus Beef Cubes, and Golden Vermicelli with Duck Egg Yolk are still on the menu. Mouth-watering newcomers include Two-Way Main Lobster comprising fried lobster head with ginger and scallions and pan-fried lobster tail with XO sauce; Braised Homemade Yee Foo Noodles, and Lobster with Fish Maw.

Then there is the dim sum menu, complete with a newly minted Dim Sum Room where one can enjoy such fine morsels as scallop dumplings, pan-fried mushroom buns, and prawn dumplings with water chestnuts.
