Early this year, the Singaporean café and brunch concept opened their doors to the ever-expanding food scene in Makati’s Ayala Triangle Gardens. Coffee culture is growing in the Philippines, and plenty have taken a new interest in the industry's sustainable processes and ethical sourcing of coffee beans. Common Man Coffee Roasters’ approach to the bean-to-cup process is highlighted through a close partnership with farmers, trained baristas at their very own CMCR Academy in Singapore, as well as their very own in-house roastery.

Looking at their coffee menu, their wide selection has something for everyone, ranging from the experimental to the classics. You’re offered two options of flavour profiles: the 22 Martin blend which has nuttier tasting notes or the CMCR Espresso blend for a more fruity taste. If you opt for an iced latte to cool down, the 22 Martin blend shines through and is a choice that will leaves you satisfied and energised. You can also go for their own innovative concoctions like the nitro honey oat latte, or pick a classic like a long black. If you’re new to the coffee culture, here is a tip: ask their baristas what they suggest according to your taste preferences.
Your visit is incomplete without looking over their enticing food menu. Common Man Coffee Roasters embraces the classics and shakes things up by giving traditional brunch items an elevated twist. Start strong with their Turkish breakfast, featuring a soft-boiled egg wrapped in phyllo pastry, crunchy fried feta, lush green hummus, and pumpkin seed praline; accompanied by pita bread and a honey drizzle. It's filled with great texture, lots of protien, and is a hearty pairing for your coffee.

Their sourdough croque monsieur is layered with savoury shaved ham, a rich béchamel sauce, aged cheddar cheese, and surrounded by rocket leaves. You have the option to add a fried egg on top for that extra touch of indulgence, and to that, I say, why not?
Another crowd favourite is their Common Man full breakfast. Spicing up the traditional English breakfast, their version has delicious house-made baked beans with chorizo. Along with a tasty house-made hashbrown, a scrumptious sausage that will win the locals over, a seared herbed Roma tomato, incredibly fresh portobello mushrooms, and eggs in any style you’d like.

From the CMCR classics food options, the chilli chicken and simple margherita pizza were underdogs that won us over. The seared chilli chicken served on a bed of crushed sweet potato, a light avocado salsa, beetroot pickled onions, burnt lemon, and rocket leaves, is complemented by chilli flakes and harissa chilli on the side. The margherita pizza is a strong contender to their staple dishes; it's simple, done right, and hits the spot.

The café offers lighter options as well, such as an acai bowl with sorbet, fresh fruits and granola, and made-to-order juices, leaving you refreshed. It's the perfect snack for the hot weather.
To some, brunch is not complete with some liquor. This café offers an impressive selection of natural wine from different regions. To cap off the meal, we had the opportunity to try their yuzu cheesecake, which was zesty and bright. For a final sweet ending, we tried their sinless, gluten-free take on chocolate cake which is also a worth-it treat for those seeking out something more decadent.
