Run by renowned Singaporean pastry chef Janice Wong (Asia’s best pastry chef from 2013 to 2014 in the Asia’s 50 Best ranking), 2am Dessert Bar is cool and seductive with a sleek and enigmatic interior design that imbues its artfully created desserts with an undeniable sexiness. What’s especially interesting is that items in the menu come with suggested beverage pairings. For instance, the strawberry caprese–which features the fruit in an ice cream, as fresh and pickled pieces, and in a consommé–is accompanied by a non-alcoholic drink called Spice Garden, a fruity combination of Seedlip Spice 94, raspberry, toffee lychee syrup, lemon, and tonic water.  For something more indulgent, dig into the “Chocolate H2O”, a dark chocolate cake drizzled with salted caramel and accompanied by Kochi yuzu sorbet. This salty-sweet mix is best paired with a red wine, in particular the Coppi Siniscalco Primitivo from Puglia, which is served here.

Mentored by the likes of André Chiang and Mohamed Al-Matin, pastry chef Soh Huishan’s very own Catkin by Huishan is a dessert boutique that sets itself apart with its unique dessert omakase. Soh takes inspiration from her love for Singapore’s diverse culinary culture. Her reinterpretation of ondeh ondeh sees gula melaka gelato sitting atop sticky mochi in a gula melaka sauce and powdered with desiccated coconut. Another highlight is Soh’s version of “muah chee”, which sees a sheet of mochi layered over peanut gelato and topped with candied peanut brittle. If you prefer just having a cold treat to beat the weather, don’t miss out on Soh’s gelato, which is specially churned to order.
