As açai bowls have remained popular over the years, we round up the best places to find this antioxidant superfood in Singapore

Açai bowls have emerged from the purview of health enthusiasts to become just as ubiquitous as bubble tea in Singapore, and for good reason. These tiny berries native to South America may look like a blueberry, but contain 10 times more antioxidants, less natural sugar, and more protein. With a tart, complex and slightly bitter flavour, it’s best enjoyed with a dash of sugar and pulped into a frozen blend, which is the perfect base for fruits, honey, nut butter and granola and a healthy alternative to most ice creams and sorbets. And as the weather climbs to unbearable temperatures, what better way to cool down than with a good bowl of açai? Here are the best places to get your açai fix.

1. Project Açai

At the top of the list is Project Açai, the first dedicated açai café to open in Singapore in 2015. With six outlets across Singapore, it’s hard not to get addicted to offerings like the “Nuts for Açai” bowl, which sees bananas spread over a blended açai base topped with cacao nibs, chia seeds, granola, and drizzled with two nut butters, which include, peanut, almond, cashew, cookie, and hazelnut cacao. But if you’re looking for something lighter and fruitier, go for lemon açai bowl, which blends lemon into the açai base for a burst of citrus, topped with fruits, goji berries, toasted coconut, and a choice of nut butter.

2. An Açai Affair

Another açai must-try, Singapore’s largest açai café sources its single-origin, organic berries directly from Cametá in Pará, and blends it with organic lemons and coconut nectar. The result is one of the healthiest açai bowls you can find in Singapore with less sugar and calories, making your açai treat guilt-free.

A classic option is the “Triple A”, which is packed with fresh fruits, granola, nuts, and superfoods. But for something a little more indulgent but still healthy, go for the “Ch-ch-ch-chia”, which sees a base of chia pudding with açai base on top, accompanied by fruits and superfoods. Switch the chia pudding out for mango sorbet in the “Mango Tango” or coconut sorbet in the “Coco Glow”, making sure each bowl is as refreshing as it can be.
