Cover Plume at night

The two-Michelin-starred restaurant translates its food and wine philosophy for a laidback outdoor space

Those who have Écriture on their dining bucket list but balk at the not-insignificant price of the degustation menus can now get a taste of the two-Michelin-starred restaurant just upstairs, at the newly-opened Plume. Whereas Écriture translates to ‘writing’ in French, Plume references the traditional feather quills used for that same act in the days preceding the ballpoint pen.

Taking over the previous rooftop space inhabited by another Le Comptoir brand, Piqniq, Plume is an altogether more mature proposition thanks to its refined grey and yellow design scheme, an extensive Europe-centric wine list curated by Écriture's director of operations, Marc-Antoine Compper, and bar bites by executive chef Maxime Gilbert.

From the 500-reference-strong wine list are safe bets from Burgundy and Bordeaux, alongside boutique vintners and lesser-known producers. Champagne, white wine and rosé options are also available for those looking for something more easygoing while basking outdoors. Bottles start from HK$350, while a cigar menu including premium brands such as Arturo Fuente OpusX and Cohiba and Flor de Selva will appease those pining for a post-prandial puff.

To pair with the wines on offer, Gilbert has created a menu of approachable French fare. Start off with fresh oysters with shallot vinegar; cheese plates sourced from world-renowned fromagier, Bernard Antony; or Oteiza charcuterie flown in from the heart of Basque Country. Then move on to classics like homemade French toast, croque monsieur, and Australian wagyu beef tartare. To really impress, order Écriture's infamous caviar tart alongside a cold glass of champagne. A breakfast service is also in the works, featuring an array of classic French pastries with rustic homemade bread paired with coffee or fresh juice.

Plume is now open from 12pm to 10pm daily.
