Wildmoor is William Grant & Sons’ latest Scotch whisky brand, created to pay tribute to the country’s landscape that shaped its whisky-making culture

It is easy to fall in love with Scotland’s majestic landscape, from its historic moorlands to its dense forests and mountain ranges that helped shape its whisky-making culture for centuries. For the whisky-makers at family-owned distillery William Grant & Sons, led by master blender Brian Kinsman, it inspired them to launch Wildmoor, their newest range of high-end rare blended Scotch whisky that captures the landscape’s essence in a bottle.

Wildmoor’s five expressions are crafted from the family’s prized reserves of malt and grain whiskies sourced from all over Scotland 60 years ago. With enough time to mature in the cellars, the whiskies developed their unique characters with just the right depth and complexity influenced by the climate and the passing of time.

The vision for Wildmoor, explained Kinsman, was to “create a whisky that embodied the raw majesty of Scotland’s awe-inspiring landscapes”. He added: “I delved deeper into my personal memories of these wild places, and what was initially a single whisky has become a series of extremely old and prestigious blended malts and blended whiskies, each one a multi-sensory tribute to Scotland’s vast terrain.”

Wildmoor 23 Year Old Dark Moorland, for example, is a blend of Highland and Speyside malts mingled with Lowland grain whisky and matured in American and European oak casks. The latter gives the expression its rich flavours that recall the windy moors of Scotland. Giving the liquid that desired depth of character, Kinsman finished the blend in Oloroso sherry cask.

As the name implies, the Wildmoor 30 Year Old Rugged Coast was inspired by the country’s western coastline and sea air. So upon first sip, the peaty characters come through before they mingle with rich stone fruits for a lasting finish.

The oldest expression in the collection is the Wildmoor 40 Year Old Black Mountain, which is a tribute to the high mountains that dominate Northern Scotland’s landscape. Envisioning a whisky that would be intense yet extremely elegant, Kinsman and his team combined rare grain and Highland malts and infused the blend with a Ghost Distillery stock. This is finished in Pedro Ximenex cask, ensuring that each sip of the whisky is rich, deep and elegant.

Wildmoor 23 Year Old Waking Forest and Wildmoor 30 Year Old Tropical Coast, created in homage to the forests and western coastlines of Scotland, are travel retail exclusives which are available at Changi Airport Lotte Duty Free shops and Wildmoor’s immersive pop-up at Changi Airport Terminal 1 Departures until May 23. These will be available at selected retail shops, along with the rest of the expressions, from May 24.
