The Glenlivet, the iconic Speyside whisky, has officially debuted its highly anticipated Small Batch Collection in Malaysia. In an intimate pairing session at The Chamber in JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, alongside The Glenlivet’s brand ambassador, Bastien Michaud, guests were guided through a series of bites prepared by the team at Nathalie Gourmet.
This launch marks the first time this limited-edition series has been readily available to purchase in Malaysia. The collection showcases three exceptional aged expressions: a 17 Year Old, a 19 Year Old, and a 20 Year Old. Developed under the guardianship of Cask Master Kevin Balmforth, each single malt is bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered to preserve its natural purity while delivering an intensified flavour profile.

Wood is important to every whisky, but in this lineup, it is the beating heart of it. Exploring different wood maturation techniques, casks were hand-selected to create unique combinations to shape these three distinct personalities. The 17 Year Old Wildflower Honey is matured exclusively in first-fill American oak, producing the beloved notes of apples, citrus, and honeyed sweetness. With the 19 Year Old Indulgent Chocolate, it delves deeper into the notes of berries and spices through the marriage of first-fill American oak, first-fill Sherry, and second-fill ex-Scotch barrels. This brings forward the dark fruit flavours and warm baking spices, ending in a velvety finish, even at cask strength.

To complete the trilogy, the 20 Year Old Orchard Fruitiness weaves together first-fill American oak, second-fill ex-Scotch, and American oak hogsheads to deliver a syrupy, indulgent enveloping of flavours that consist of ripe pears, caramelised figs, and toasted oak.

In celebration of this incredible lineup and debut, Nathalie Gourmet prepared a bespoke culinary pairing, all designed to accentuate each expression’s nuanced profile. The 17 Year Old was beautifully paired with a Goat Cheese Mousse with citrus caviar as the first half of the pairing, and later a Smokey Trout Tube. The 19 Year Old found its match with a Spiced Carrot Duck Confit, and later a Foie Gras and Chocolate to, of course, bring out the chocolatey notes that come through from the sherry cask aging process. The 20 Year Old’s pairing came in a bright celeriac salad and cracker and apples, eaten in two ways, followed by a savoury finish of a Confit Chicken Cromesquis.
