The wine access tool provides the advanced technology that lets you enjoy a glass of wine without uncorking the bottle.

How many times have you been tempted to open a rare bottle of wine, but decided otherwise to avoid spoiling your precious vintage? Well, your sad days are long over with the creation Coravin Wine System by medical engineer Greg Lambrecht.

It was first released in the market in 2013; but this year, Lambrecht launched an improved version — Coravin Model Two Wine System which looks sleeker, more compact and portable. You can now choose from three bold colours — red, gold and silver — but the concept is the same: It lets you pour a glass of wine without uncorking the bottle to prevent oxidation.

How does this tool achieve this? Through a long needle and an argon gas capsule in the system. To access the wine, you first have to attach the clamp on the bottle. Then, you have to push down the top handle, which contains the needle that pierces through the foil and cork, and acts as passageway for the wine to be poured into your glass. Once you’re done, you can easily pull up the handle and the cork will reseal itself in a few seconds. The space in the bottle is then filled with argon gas, instead of oxygen, which preserves its freshness and flavours for days, months or even years.

The beauty of this tool is that it lets you enjoy a glass without committing to one whole bottle of wine. However, you must remember that it only works with real corks. Also, you have to constantly replace the gas capsule after about 15 pours. For the more vintage wines with special corks, the Coravin has a thinner needle that still lets you enjoy it without running the seal.

The Coravin Model Two Wine System is available at The Oaks Wine Cellars, Enoteca Singapore and The Vintage Club in Singapore.
