The Visionary’s Spectacular Cellar sees part of one of the world’s finest wine collections, spanning the greats from Bordeaux and Burgundy, celebrated Champagnes and under-the-radar bottles, go under the hammer in May

He has been named ‘The Visionary’. Over 25 years, this unnamed collector has amassed an extraordinary cellar of fine wines. Now, a part of the collection will be auctioned by Christie’s in May in what is the auction house’s most valuable single-owner collection with the highest estimated total value ever for the category—exceeding HK$100 million (US$12.9 million).

More than 1,400 bottles of Bordeaux First Growths, 1,000 bottles of Right Bank icons such as Petrus, Le Pin and Cheval Blanc, and 8,400 bottles of Burgundy, are just some of the many wines that comprise an outstanding collection that must be one of the finest in the world.

Other highlights include 1,000 bottles of Champagne, with selections from Dom Perignon, Salon, Louis Roederer Cristal, Bollinger, Pol Roger and Taittinger, as well as around 460 bottles of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, 95 bottles of Georges / Henri Jayer, 430 bottles of Leroy, and 400 bottles of Rousseau, not to mention white wines from the likes of Coche Dury, d’Auvenay, Lafon and Leflaive.

Not only is the sale a chance for fellow collectors to purchase some of the greatest wines from the most revered producers, but also an opportunity to discover under the radar and up-and-coming producers, such as Rossignol Trapet, Domaine de la Vougeraie, Bruno Clavelier, and Jean Claude Bachelet. As if this were not enough, there will also be bottles from Rhone, Jura, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the US and Australia. The diversity of the cellar is a reflection of the true passion of the man behind the collection.

Comprised of over 1,350 lots, The Visionary’s Spectacular Cellar sale will take place in two parts, with a live auction featuring more than 800 lots taking place on 21 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, followed by an online auction beginning on 23 May with more than 550 lots. The cellar will be sold to further the impact of London Business School.

“It is with humility and love that I would make a gift of a portion of my life long fine wine collection to the London Business School so that it may continue to have an impact on the way business impacts the world through its students, executives and alumni, right now and throughout the journey of their lives,” said the seller.
