Born on sun-soaked vineyards in southwest France and nurtured through centuries of craftsmanship, Louis XIII Cognac is a spirit steeped in time and nature. From selecting the eaux-de-vie (“water of life”) with the greatest ageing potential, storing them in specially crafted wood casks, to the Cellar Masters’ meticulous tasting of the liquid over time, each bottling holds a captivating tradition. Louis XIII tierçons—a large wooden cask born from French oak trees—house the enchanting transformation that gives the cognac its inimitable complexity. A “rare cask” refers to a particular one that is set apart from others for its unique and unexpected aromatic profile, resulting in a distinct expression of Louis XIII Cognac never encountered before.
Fifth-generation Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau is inspired by the unknown and the unfamiliar, which led to the uncovering of a new wonder: the Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.1.
The discovery of a rare cask is a significant moment for a Louis XIII Cellar Master, as such a unique, spontaneous occurrence may never happen in a single lifetime. Loiseau says, “While the singularity of a Rare Cask rests on a miracle given by nature, the know-how that is necessary to its creation was born from a transmission of an art, from generation to generation, where each cellar master perpetuates the gestures of his predecessors.”
The successor of the Rare Cask second edition launched a decade ago, the Rare Cask 42.1 has filled a limited number of 775 alluring decanters, sculpted from black crystal by Baccarat. Crafted by 20 master craftsmen, each jewel-like decanter is adorned with a white gold and rhodium finished neck, while the ring is engraved with quadrilobe patterns that are illustrative of the fleur de lys.
Presented as a ritual set, it is accompanied by crystal glasses featuring black quatrefoils and a serving pipette crowned with a black medallion.
A local launch to reveal this latest Rare Cask edition took place at Gallery MiraNila, graced by distinguished guests and partners. Dressed in elegant dark outfits to match the event’s enigmatic aura, they enjoyed an exquisitely curated six-course menu that worked harmoniously with sips of Louis XIII Cognac, accompanied by a live musical quartet.

Among the night’s attendees were celebrity influencer couple, Alodia Gosiengfiao-Quimbo and Christopher Quimbo, as well as executives from the French house including Tyrel Ball, Managing Director for South and North Asia Pacific, Florence Kwok, Director of Finance, and Sally Brenchley, Regional Marketing Manager for South and North Asia Pacific.
Also present was brand ambassador Klein Ong, who guided guests through the story and tasting ceremony of the Rare Cask 42.1. “We are honoured to present this exceptional opportunity to the Philippines to witness the legacy of Louis XIII,” he remarked. “Echoing Rare Cask 42.1, the Philippines stands as a wonder in its own right, preserving nature through time."
