The Macallan M Copper is the first of the The Macallan M Collection to be made available in Malaysia
The Macallan M Collection is renowned for its collaborations with some of the world's most famous names. With The Macallan whiskies being highly sought after, and often fetching the highest prices at auctions, we take a closer look at the first edition available locally.
For the latest release, the whisky brand has once again engaged Fabien Baron, creative director of famed French crystal maker, Lalique, to create luxurious decanters. The Macallan and Lalique have a successful 16-year partnership that has seen the creation of exceptional decanters.
This time around, the handcrafted designs feature six facets—a visual representation of the six pillars comprising natural colour, mastery, curiously small spirit stills, the estate, exceptional oak casks, and sherry seasoning—and the use of sustainably sourced materials for the outer packaging.
In addition, The Macallan worked with renowned luxury fashion photographer Nick Knight to create a series of photography and film in his abstract and expressionistic style. The image above captures the collection in blocks of ice as an homage to The Macallan’s connection to nature, specifically the River Spey, that runs through The Macallan Estate.

While most other distilleries have shifted their whisky making process to use larger, higher production copper stills, The Macallan maintained its use of the small spirit stills which lend its whiskies a distinct rich and robust character.
And The M Copper celebrates this aspect of the brand—its curiously small spirit stills—that are an integral part in The Macallan's whisky making process, which explains the whisky's exquisite quality and flavour profile. Housed in a Lalique copper-coloured crystal decanter, the buttery and viscous liquid teems with fruitiness with a tinge of sweet malt.
On the nose, the whisky which is bottled at 42 per cent alcohol by volume, gives off fruity scents of sweet banana, pear and white peach with a hint of citrus lemon, alongside some malty biscuit, marshmallow and vanilla, which translates well on the palate and possesses a long oaky finish.
