The limited edition bottle captures wintry aromas inspired by cooler weather
A Tale of Winter is the latest limited edition offering from Glenmorangie, which was developed by Dr Bill Lumsden, the distillery's creative director.
Having been with Glenmorangie for more than 25 years, Lumsden has a knack for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary flavour profiles. His favourite phrase, "What if?", has led to the development of a number of spectacular limited edition bottles such as the Glenmorangie Signet inspired by a cup of coffee, the Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake which is self-explanatory, and of course, this year's A Tale of Winter that aims to evoke the cosiness of being wrapped up in a warm sweater in cold weather. Incidentally, this idea came to Lumsden when he was snowed in at home one winter.

Combining five main ingredients, wood, water, barley, yeast and time, and a whole lot of imagination, Lumsden brought to life A Tale of Winter, distilled in stills as tall as a giraffe to allow more space for taste and aroma. The liquid is then mellowed in bourbon casks before being finished in casks that once held Sicily’s fortified Marsala wine, which is loved for its sweet and fruity flavours.
Featuring flavours that are as bright and vivid as Lumsden’s favourite woollen sweater, A Tale of Winter offers slightly sharp top note of oxidised fruit with hints of orange toffee.
Add a few drops of water to reveal its aroma of caramelised fruits like pears and oranges with hints of nuttiness or sandalwood. On the tongue, it's slightly spicy before bringing forth a burst of sweet nutty flavours with a long, lingering finish. The amber-hued whisky is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46 per cent alcohol by volume.
"We all know the delight of snuggling up in a winter jumper, especially when we are feeling cold, which the brilliant mind of Dr Bill Lumsden has somehow managed to capture brilliantly,"
